If a full auto weapon is defined as firing more than once for a single pull of the trigger and the "shoestring trick" and malfunctions are now classified as "machine guns," what about old Ithica shotguns that fire with every forward pump as long as the trigger is held or single action revolvers that fire when the hammer is fanned as long as the trigger is held?

I used to have one of those old JC Whitney shotties that fired if you held down the trigger and worked the pump. Very Kewl it was. I don't think your question holds water as viable class III. In both the SA fan job and the shotgun there are other human actions that need to take place in order to send out multiple rounds. Not the definition of "fully automatic" by any means. Not from an engineering standpoint. Of course, I'm NOT an engineer. But my dad was and my father in law IS and btw, I used to stay at Holiday Inn all the time!

2.1.6 Machinegun. Firearms within the definition of machinegun include weapons that shoot, are designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manual
reloading by a single function of the trigger.

I guess it all hinges on the interpertation of "manual reloading" by the BATFE then.
