Some friends gave me their Marlin 336 30-30 as a sort of permanent loan. They only like handguns and muzzleloaders. I want to develop some mild, cast bullet loads for it, strictly for targets, not hunting.

My question: do I need to full length resize the cases when I handload or is neck sizing sufficient? I plan to load only single rounds, like I do with mil-surp bolt actions. Of course I'll full length size them the first time.

Thanks for any help.

You must FL size only.

But adjust the FL die so it only sets the shoulder back far enough to easily chamber again.

If you FL size completely and rely on the rim to set headspace, your brass will be toast after only a couple three loadings becasue of excess stretching each shot.
