I'm looking for ideas on what are good accurate choices to be looking at since I don't know anything about them. All suggestions would be a big help. Also, would I maybe be better off in that price range, to look for a good used pistol? Thanks! :)

A used LesBaer would be nice.

Colts are nice and in that range. I don't think I'll ever buy another 1911 under $1500 ever again, except for a basic GI style Colt.

I've seen Dan Wesson Heritages in the $1000-1200 range. Some custom DW Heritage Razorbacks in duty black around $1500.

Are the stainless colts available for $800 anywhere?

I got my used 1989 5" Government Stainless for $650 after tax at my LGS. That doesn't mean you will find one for that price, but its possible. Under $800 is well within the realm of possibility, but you may have to do some looking.

*Note* My gun did not come with the Trijicons, I added those just yesterday :)

Wow I'm in the exact same boat as the OP.

I have not found any Colts locally (FL) for under 8, everyone seems to want at least a grand for them! I even saw a Colt/Essex for $800 lmao.

My question is - a used Les Baer for ~$800? That's a rare bargain. They don't tend to sit on the shelf too long. :what:
I have to agree with the Springfield Range Officer if it's a new gun purchase. Used? Colt's NEVER a bad bet, but there's so many viable choices, I can't inspect the condition & YOU can't check the accuracy. There have also been some strong reviews of the new Ruger SR1911 & the Remington R1 Enhanced. It's a GREAT time to pick up a 1911. So MANY fine options within your budget.

Well, I've looked up the springfield range officer and looks to be a very nice pistol! I'll for sure keep that one in mind. Now, to try and sell my new deer rifle I bought right before this past deer season as due to medical reasons I have to quit hunting altogether. The bad part is I bought it new scoped and sighted it in but, was to sick to even go so I got to shoot a 20 round box of cartridges through it after spending all that money on it and never got to even hit the deer woods. I hope to get enough out of it as a complete package to fund a nice 1911. I'll probably list it in the classifieds here once, I can come up with a reasonable price to ask for. I'd probably even be willing to trade for a nice 1911 since due to heart attack, doctor says no more hunting. :( I really appreciate all of the help you great folks have given me Thanks! :)

I am kind of doing the same thing but my range is a little higher. Maybe a DW Heritage if I can get a decent deal.

Kimber Custom Target! $800 otd. Very accurate! The SR1911 seems like the new hot thing..but I probably would stick with Kimber.

To one other poster...LES BAER FOR $800 ????? :what: I bought my Premier II Super Tac for $1900 used!!! Great, almost perfect shape..but used. It's hard to find one that cheap..unless its a McNasty! Even then...$800???

I think if you are patient, you should be able to find what you are looking for. Remember this is still 2011, and the 1911's 100th anniversary. Supply is down and prices are up.

Remember how much AR's cost in 2008 and 2009? That was a bad time to be in the market for an AR. Now, they are much less expensive and more available.

Two years ago it seemed as if holsters began their surge in popularity. That surge has begun to wain a bit.

This year it has been the 1911. I'm pretty sure by summer, fall, and certainly by this time next year, 1911's will be more plentiful on the shelves and prices will have come down. Start saving now, and you'll be able to afford a better 1911, and have more options by then.

Colt, Springfield or Kimber (I'd lean towards Colt and Springfield, in that order).

Check out Buds Gun Shop from time to time - they sometimes have some Colts in the 800+ range, and a Springfields in the 700+ range - though their stock seems to pretty slim on 1911s lately...

Based on owner reports and past experience with the company, if I spotted a Ruger SR1911 I would pounce hard.

Not gonna happen in Kalifornistan tho...:fire:

Off to look for that $800 Les Baer... ;)

Colt 1991
Kimber Custom II
Sig
Ruger
Springfield Range Officer or Loaded

Take yer pick.

Lack of ones in stock, though.

Buy the Ruger. I have one on order for $590. Easily the best value in 1911's. The supply should start to pick up soon.

look on armslist nationally. my friend just sold his the other day on there. actually he traded it but they are readily available here, in tn
