It's the time of the year where a man's heart turns to thoughts of revolver underlugs. Well mine do at least.

I'm looking for suggestions on reasonably priced underlug revolvers to add to the fold. Yes I know I can go for a 586/686 or a Python, but I'd like to keep it under $300 if possible. I'm looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, but I'm not sure what I'm after so long as it's got a full underlug.. So any suggestions are welcome.

I suggest saving up a bit more money.
It's not that I can't buy a 586, Python, etc, it's just that I'd rather not. I'm looking for something different. Once you clear the $300-$400 price point it's literally going to be either a S&W L frame, or a Colt snake gun.

How snobbish are you when it comes to brand names? My Taurus 85s are full underling and cost under $300.
Not at all, that's kind of why I started this thread. To see what's out there. I'll check out the 85, thanks for the recommendation.

I would suggest you look at a Dan Wesson 715. The 715 is available with 2.5", 4", 6", 8" and 10" barrels... and all of the barrels can be interchanged in the field in about 5 minutes or less. Full under lug heavy barrel shrouds and partial under lug standard barrel shrouds are available... also interchangable on the same frame. They are not cheap... but definitely unique and not a S&W or Colt!

Not at all. The Dan Wesson has already been mentioned, and there's Korth, not to mention Ruger's GP100. It's definitely not just S&W and Colt.

For lower priced revolvers, there's the Taurus, Charter and EAA all of which have models that could be considered full-underlug.

Buy a #10 Smith "trade in" from Buds and screw a target brrl on it? Beats the snot out of new Smith's by such a far margin, really not a fare comparison.

I have a bunch of underlugs,Smiths and Colts..... they are pretty nice. Colts cost too much and new Smith's aren't worth the effort.

I agree, this ain't 1990. Not a whole lot you can do in the revolver world with $300. That said, I've never really cared for full lugs. Not only do they look better without them but also handle much better. Although I always plan on carrying my sixguns, not just shooting them in a controlled environment. However, there are some guns with full length underlugs that I have lusted after. Such as the S&W 586, model 29 "Classic" and I sorely miss my 648.

I've already got a M15, and a PPC gun. Not a bad suggestion for those who don't already have those though.

Under 3 bills. The revolver you want is a unicorn.

Oh come on, Budsgunshop has a dozen wheel guns listed for $300 and under. If I bump it up to $350 they have 30 guns who's MSRP is at my price point or below. Most of those guns have full underlug as well, I didn't realize it was coming back into style.

To clarify, I am not looking for a gun for social purposes, I have that covered. I am not looking for a collectors piece either. I am looking for something a little off the beaten path, that is a full underlug. It could be an import gun, something no longer in production, or a brand new idea. I'm not picky on those parts. Just a full underlug.

Bud's has 17 DA revolvers in stock for under $300. Of those, only one is a full lug and that is this EAA Windicator. Expand that to $350 and it's more of the same. I don't recommend guns I wouldn't buy so I wouldn't recommend any of those. If a full lug is all that you require, then the EAA is your baby. For me, the lowest end revolver I'd consider is Charter Arms. They're still $400 for the target models and my expectations would be low.

Well I think holding a specific dollar figure in mind is a little unnecessary if the goal is to just discuss revolvers that aren't "the mainstream" (Colt, Ruger, S&W) or "the elite" (Korth, Magnum Research, the customs...)

I think it's fun to consider things outside of what's always right in front of us so I like the spirit of the OP- let's maybe focus on the $$$ less and "unusual, full underlug" more?

Ed: for what it's worth a full underlug 5-6" 38spl or 327fed would be fun, I'm looking at you Taurus!

Hi...
I like revolvers with full underlugs.
I have a couple of Smith's with full underlugs...a 686 Silhouette Model and a Model 29 Classic and a Dan Wesson .44Mag with a full underlugs as well.
I also have revolvers with partial underlugs as well. No partiality here... I like and shoot them all.

Maybe a Ruger Security Six? Doubt you will find one under $300, but $500 would definitely be doable.

I like the full underlug as well. For many years I would not own a revolver unless it has at least half an underlug or ejector rod shroud if you want to call it that. Something about an exposed ejector rod gave a gun a cheap look to me. Now days I have a full assortment of shrouded and unshrouded revolvers but I still prefer the full underlug especially for shooting hot loads. It certainly softens recoil but also keeps barrel rise down for follow up shots. I have no clue what is available with a full underlug in the cheaper price range the OP has mentioned. I tend to stay away from the cheaper guns y experience with the cheaper guns while limited is they are not as accurate or as well built as Smiths and Colts and certainly don't hold their value.

You can purchase what ever you like for ever price you like but my first rule of thumb on revolvers is " don't go cheap ". they might work fine for while and serve you well but I am of the mind you get what you pay for in the long run. Later down the road you might just be asking yourself I could of saved some $$ and used those funds on a much better quality revolver now I am stuck with cheap POS, JMHO !!!

I have owned some older full-lug Taurus and Rossi revolvers that functioned well. The OP still might find a used one cheaply. The Taurii were model 66 variants. The Rossi had a model number maybe something like 971.

As a long time owner of DW's I concur, look for the Monson made guns, the Palmer plant made a wide range of quality; some great like the Monson, many not so great... 002.JPG These aren't the type of full underlug you may be looking for, this is a Supermag and full underlug was too heavy for some competitions. EWK industries, makes some amazing slab side barrel sets for the 357 and 44 mag DW's.

Thanks for the suggestions on the Llama, I wasn't even aware those existed. At the moment I have my eye on the EAA Windicator, I want to handle on in person first though. A used Taurus is also of interest, a friend had one in .22 magnum that I regret not purchasing from him. It was a dandy little gun.

Again I'm not that hung up on the price point. The main reason for setting one that to most would appear low for a "quality" revolver was to see what else is out there. Once you start going up in price, there aren't that many manufactures out there.

I beg to differ on the price point. I think it’s quite the opposite. Most of my guns I collect are weird. I like their quirks. But I don’t think going above $3-400 means most will be smiths or colts at all. You can get a GP100 with full underlug, Dan Wesson, korth or go real interesting with the Philip and Rodgers M47 Medusa

I went to google, clicked on "images" & searched for "full underlug"

Got Lotsa hits - try it, you might find something you like :)

Under $300, unusual and Python like is a tall order to fill. A 4" full lug 357 mag GP 100 in blued or SS is what comes to mind but not unusual. It's a quality weapon that you should be able to find used $400-500. New they're about $630 in my area. IMG_0195.JPG

Just picked up a Tuarus 66 NIB. 7 shot .357 magnum for a little over $300. That was from a LGS.
