I had a shooting trip planned this weekend for friends and my son. Everyone ended up backing out, but I still headed up anyways and it turned out great.
I was shooting my Glocks, getting ready for a CCW class I have to take next month. I brought the 45 (with a 47 slide), a 19, 48, and 43.
The real purpose was to try and determine which little guy will go on my permit, the 43 or the 48/43x. I have been using the Z9 magazines with the 43 to give me an extra bit of grip for my larger hands. They have worked great so far, but they basically extend the grip to the size of the 48 with the loss of one round. After a few hundred round through both, I have come to realize that I shoot the 48/43x much better. It feels better in my hand, I am able to recover more quickly from shots, and it feels like it shoots smoother.
Since I live in CA and 43 are hard to get, I think I am going to send this one down the line and let someone else have a chance with it. I have mixed feelings as it is a great little gun, but I don't see any advantage over the 48. When I CCW them they feel the same and the 48 does not print any different than the 43 with the Z9 magazines.
What do you guys think, should I ditch the 43?
Once I finished with those guys, I shot the 45 and the 45 frame with the 47 slide. They both shoot great and for some reason, 47 does feel like it shoot just a bit faster and flatter.
Since I was not rushed, I waited for the sun to go down and did some shooting with lights. While I feel I am fairly proficient in the day, I really need to practice more with my lights. I was consistently missing my first shot although I was able to pull it back together for the second round. I also practiced with my HD rifle. I did much better with the rifle.
All in all it was a great day and evening. It was so nice to be out of the city and just sit and listen to the coyotes at sundown.
