Hey guys; do y'all have some firearms that you use for defense and others that you shoot for fun, even if the two classes are in the same caliber? For example, mine are:
-Rifles:
Defense/ #1Del-Ton Echo AR15 w/ Lucid HD7 Quad reticle sight and flashlight (night time)
#2 Del-Ton Echo AR15 w/ Burris AR-332 3x prism sight w/ red and green ret. (day time)
Fun/ #1 My grandpa's M1 Carbine (CMP that he bought in the 60's I believe) <SO Fun!>
#2 Saiga conversion Ak in 7.62x39

-Handguns:
Defense/ #1 Remington R1 1911 GI style (defense but still fun)
Fun/ #1 Armscorp M200 .38 Special revolver 4" barrel (not a Cadillac, but lot's of fun!)

-Shotguns: (I only have the one - Mossberg Maverick 88/ Also not a Cadillac, but it has been super reliable and patterns well too.)

thanks in advance for your replies!

I think I could add the Taurus PT99 in the fun category. :)

For fun I shoot my K98 BNZ 1945 with the single rune with reduced loads

Defense currently is my CZ P07. I like it because of the 22 conversion kit it comes with

Nice, good choices! I should add that I carry a Glock 43.

I have a CZ P07 and mine didn't come with a .22 conversion kit.... Is that a special deal or something recent??

I have firearms to fill specific roles, such as defense, hunting, plinking, just because, precision, and so on, but most of my firearms fill more than one role and all of them are shot for fun. My defense AR is a suppressed shorty with RDS, light and sling, but it's also one of the most fun of my firearms to shoot. It gets used for training, plinking, hunting and "stump" shooting- that is, taking it out to the field and shooting at targets of opportunity. I have battlerifles that while they aren't dedicated defense rifles, I wouldn't hesitate to use one to defend hearth and home or for training. They are excellent choices for stump shooting. My precision bolt action is set up for long distance shooting. I don't use it much for hunting because it's long, heavy and unwieldy. But that doesn't stop me from using it for plinking and the stationary version of stump shooting. My 22 rifle is so handy, it gets used for a little bit of everything!

Thanks, great reply! I will say that I also shoot all of mine for fun here and there, but the ones I listed as "fun" are just the ones I really enjoy taking out to shoot/plink with. I lost a fun one when I sold my Mini 14; that thing was so fun.

As things sit right now, I have exactly two purely fun guns: a Ruger Charger and an SBR’d 9mm AR. Obviously the Charger is a 22, so it’s not “useful” for much other than plinking or close range small game. The 9mm SBR has been painfully unreliable as of late, so it’s just for looking cool and turning money into noise...in between double feeds and FTE’s.

Everything else in my safe has a purpose...defensive or hunting related.

Dang, sorry to hear the 9mm SBR has been unreliable... :uhoh: That must be frustrating especially if you've put effort into trying to correct that.

All my weapons are fun;)
Except for a S&W shield40. It kills on both ends with defense loads.
Shooting either my Krag carbine or rifle is purely fun.

My S&W Model 67 is for fun. Others i have were intended for defense but some didn’t make the cut for reliability reasons.

Hi...
Most are for specific uses but almost all get shot for fun at least occasionally.
I seldom shoot my 7mm Magnum for fun... I shoot it to verify zero and for hunting. It has a nearly singular purpose...to serve as a hunting tool.
I have a selection of other rifles in various calibers that can and/or have filled that function as well but they are also shot for fun and as dedicated target and experimentation platforms.
All of my handguns are shot for fun but several serve as self defense weapons as well. However most serve no purpose other than target shooting.
All of my shotguns are shot for fun and for hunting and a couple are also used as backup home defense guns.

I think all of my firearms fall into 4 categories:
Defense
Hunting
Inherited
Fun

As for guns that I bought purely for fun, that would include most of my .22's. I have a couple .22's that are for hunting, but most of them are just for pure enjoyment at the range. My Ruger 1911 and Hi Power are also just fun range guns, as well as my HiPoint 9mm carbine.

Understand completely... I actually have a habit of getting rid of anything that doesn't work very reliably. The fact that any of them could in a pinch be defensive necessitates that to some extent in my mind. For example, I got rid of my Savage 1907 because the thing just would NOT run reliably! Hated to get rid of it, felt great in the hand, and was fun to shoot, but had to replace it!

You know, I currently don't even have a .22... Maybe a Ruger 10/22 is in my future :p

The Dan Wesson model 15-2 is pretty much a fun only item. I'd certainly use it for defense if there were no other choices but it is pretty high maintenance if I want it to make me look competent. To get its best you do have to monitor stuff like the gap and barrel tension pretty much constantly. When its set up right for a given session and with the right ammo for the particular distance at that time it can be more fun than most any other gun I own though.

The Smith & Wesson DA Model 4 would also be a mostly fun gun but more often gets into the primary carry category; it too is a real joy to shoot and really surprisingly forgiving but it's 115 years old now so I use it more as a backup or BBQ gun or low threat period choice.

So the Dan Wesson 15-2 just gets poor accuracy if you're not diligent with gap and barrel extension? Interesting, you'd kind of think that such an expensive (I think it would be expensive anyway?) revolver would be low maintenance, or is it kind of like the race gun high maintenance thing?

Defense. Colt LE6940 with TA31H AGOG.
Benelli M-4

Fun, anything I can safely put up against my shoulder and make if go "bang."

Defense handguns Glock Gen1 model 17. SIG P226, SIG P320

fun. All of the others.:D

Which reticle on your TA31H AGOG?

Partly the ejector needing more tuning. Partly magazines.

If it was 100% it’d be a good HD gun. Super handy, subgun dimensions.

Glock Gen1 model 17

You have the original perfection?!?! You could just stop right there!

Seriously great gun and the first autoloader I ever shot as a kid - it was THE gun to have around that time period and probably why I’m a Glock guy now.
