In digging through my barn yesterday, I unearthed a couple of forgotten boxes of Romanian 7.62x25. Apparently I had squirreled them away in a box of decoy rigging supplies (also MIA for 10 years much to my chagrin) when we moved 10 years ago. Stored in less than ideal conditions in a hot, dusty hayloft for 10 years, I decided the best course of action would be to burn them up ASAP. I did pull 2 to ensure the powder was in good condition, and given no signs of deterioration other than significant tarnish on the exterior, went to the local still open to members range.

Forgot how much fun the CZ52 and Romanian TT33 are to blaze away with. Due to the non-replaceability of ammunition for these, I've been fiercely rationing my remaining 1200 or so rounds of Romanian (stored properly) to a box or 2 per year. This was "extra" ammo, so felt no need to hold back. Was able to consistently engage an IDPA silhouette with both pistols at 100 yards. Clay pigeons on the bank were sitting ducks at 25. All in all a great day with the old Red Stars. I sure miss the days of cheap pallets of ammo and $100-150 pistols to shoot it in.

Too busy shooting to take pics. Will add one of the pistols tomorrow with better light. Power's out right now (scheduled switching outage), so we're on candle/battery power for another hour or so.

How do you like that Romanian in each of those two pistols?

I have a passel of the ammo including two complete cans - so, what - 1224rds x 2?

Haven't shot any of it as of yet. It came with a PPS-43C.

Todd.

Jealous!!! I've got a few loose rounds, and one sealed can left. If you have the 1980s dated stuff, it is among the best of the surplus Tok ammo that was available. It's fairly mild compared to the yugo and bulgarian stuff that was around. Good accuracy (except for the occasional split neck). They used a stab crimp on the bullet and it lends itself to that problem, creating a stress point for fracture. You probably know this, but it is corrosive, clean appropriately.

Thanks.
Yup I know of the primers but it never hurts to reiterate.

My best guess from the can markings is '85. I'd been concerned about it being abusive to my favored CZ52s and have only been shooting my S&B to date.

No pics? For shame!

Several years ago I ran a few flavors over a chronograph. If I remember correctly, Czech steel cased was the hottest, approaching 1700fps! Yugo '50s was a close second, followed by Polish and Bulgarian 1950's all in the 1600 +/- 50 fps range. The Romanian '80s was just a tick over 1500fps in line with PRVI commercial. All from my TT33.

Back when that ammo was plentiful and cheap, we used to buy it at gun shows to take to afg. Those rounds are difficult to obtain there, but there were many TT33 pistols about, typically carried by our interpreters.I mentioned this in another post regarding the S&W SD-9 pistols.
I would not care to do, but I think it can be made from empty 5.56 cases

The 2 commies and a gratuitous pic of the PSL for you sickos

Nice! That CZ brought back some memories of shooting with a friend back in the day. He picked up one of those $100 pistols when we were in college and that was all he could afford. We had tons of fun with that thing.

Nothing wrong with a gratuitous pic of that PSL either. I've thought a semi auto chambered in 7.62x54R would be a great addition to my collection for a long time.

The PSL is a ton of fun, especially if you know how to use the features on the optic and have room to stretch it's legs. With Czech surplus ball I was able to engage cinder blocks on a frozen lake first shot to 700m ranging my Brother in Law who selflessly volunteered to serve the proletariat in that regard as he drove the blocks into place with the special agricultural cooperative boss' vehicle. 700-1200 was a crap shoot, some took a couple of sighters. Double checking the scope ranging vs GPS, all my calls were within 25m.

No kidding! I have an 7.62x25 AR upper that was fantastic back then, not so great now. I liked the Polish surplus better than the Romanian, despite it being significantly older. Always seemed more consistent to me.

Finn fun AT Commies!:D

Todd.
Those Lapps were damn tough soldiers for sure!

Unlike the Russians, who were saved by Germany’s two-front war, the massive German resupply lines and weather (a winter and then spring thaw) that paralyzed the Nazi war machine, the Russians thought they could waltz over little old Finland... and ran into a meat grinder suffering between 4x and 6x the Finnish losses.

Their second war was just as savage, but the Russians eventually won... at a.nearly identical cost of somewhere between 4X and 6x the Finnish losses.

Stay safe.
