First full auto experience today!

Today at my local range I rented the MP5 they have. A friend and I had gone shooting and had been on the range about 45 minutes when I said I had use the restroom. It was a ruse to run up front and get them to pull out the MP5. His eyes lit up when he saw me come walking back with it. The grin he displayed told me it was the right thing to do.

I bought a box of 50 rounds. Within about 3 minutes I was back up front for another box!

All I can say is wow! It was great fun. There we were, two grown men giggling like little boys as we each took turns blazing away. It was interesting how after I fired off the first burst the other range activity died down for a few minutes. I have been there before when others were firing full auto and all the other shooters would look at each other and grin. Today that was me doing the full auto!

When I first moved here to Charlotte, N.C. last year I had a deal set up for a full auto MAC 11. After much hassle I found there was absolutely no legal way for me to own a full auto here and sadly had to back out on the deal. After today I think it is probably for the best as I realize I would go broke in no time trying to feed the darn thing!

I am going to Las Vegas next week and looking forward to a trip to The Gun Store to shoot their Thompson and maybe even the M249, mmmmmmmmmm beltfed goodness. Hopefully I will have some pics of that!

Anyway, just wanted to share.
 
Everyone always has a grin from ear to ear after shooting their first full auto. :D

Except maybe the ones with a drill instructor screaming at them while they do it.

Hey Larry-

Sure enough it was Shooter's. Do you go there often? I am there almost every weekend. I am always on the rifle range with my M1 and/or SKS, Mini 14.
 
:evil: You've shot the best, every other SMG will be downhill, except the Thompson! :D

M249=fun, fun, fun! Even with a Range NCO screaming at you. I'm glad I was the Range NCO my first time with one. :evil:

The ultimate in belt-fed goodness is an M2, I do miss them. :evil:
 
I've shot several full auto firearms and use the old training technique of firing single shots first to get the feel of the gun's operation and to help sight in. Then short bursts (2-3 shots) are attempted to get the feel and learn to control it in full auto mode. Near the end of the magazine (and if the target is close) after the other two are tried then the full auto mode is cut loose. Try to keep the bullets on the target (that's why it's close range). Fun.
 
Update

Well I am back from Vegas. And what can I say??? I got to fire a full auto Thompson, it rocked!!!!

For an old beat up shooter she sure did pack a wallop! Crappy trigger (on this particular gun), absolutely no bluing, heavy as a boat anchor, WHO CARES?!?!!!??!! Anyone on the wrong end of this thing would be having a very bad day indeed! A nasty weapon for sure.

I skipped on the M249 because the prices there were just so darned high! Hell, the cab ride just to get there cost $17.00, then the rental, target, and ammo came to $40.00 something plus .

Anyway, I just have to say, if you haven't fired a fully automatic firearm, DO IT!

It is just way more fun than I can describe here!

My wife has insisted that I post the "after" pic of me with that gorgeous M1A1. I personally think I look like someone about to spray down a crowd, but she says I just look excited. I was pretty fired up and I don't usually look quite this crazy in everyday life.

Anyway, excuse the wild unshaven google eyed guy in this picute, I had just fired a bunch of full auto bursts from a Thompspon, who wouldn't be excited right?????? :cool:

You know, I fired full auto, M60 and M2 in the army.
For some reason I cannot define, it was a LOT more fun shooting the same type of guns and others at the Bulletfests the last few years.
PERSONALY, I don't care for the MP5. And I don't know why, either. I like Uzies and I like Stens.
But most ofall, I like the Colt Monitor.
MAN, what a sweet shooter!

Even my wife likes shooting 50BMG.
both the M2, and the single shot rifles.

Got an M2 barrel last week... Got an old maddi blue print... now to build the thing.
This could take a while.
But SHHHH!
Its for her birthday.
Think she'll let me shoot it?
 
I'm partial to the M60

I've fired M60s, M16s, AR15s converted (legally), Uzis, AK47s, and a G18. Nothing is ever the same after going full-auto. I liken to flying an F15 and then having to go back to a Cessna 152. You'll never be the same. :( Curse the gun-control dorks who keep law-abiding people like us from that which we should rightfully own. Double-curse the fools whose stupidity opened the door to such. At least I can rent one here. :what: I think God intended for all men to own multiple machine guns and to have an unlimited supply of ammunition.

Okay...maybe not. Ba-ha!

Full-auto is definitely a blast! I went to Knob Creek for the first time this past April. While I was there I shot a full-auto HK91 and BAR. They are both awesome firearms! I highly recommend going to the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, it’s the ultimate display of full-auto firepower!

Actually, a full auto is in my near future, I am just deciding on where the best county to move to is right now!

After the fiasco I had here with a MAC 11 I decided at that point that I would find a more class III friendly place to live. Things have come along quite nicely. In the interest of staying "under the radar" I will say no more than that. :)

To the others that have responded thanks for the nice words. :D Full auto kicks butt and it seems as though it is taboo even in the ranks of "pro-gun" people. Let's hope we can change that in the future.

dunno, i was grinning pretty hard even with a drill instructor 4in. from my face and a piece of crap m60 that malfunctioned every 20 rounds or so.

i've been debating for a long time whether it's worth all the bs to get a class III weapon. prices keep goin up.
