friend has a blank firing 8mm (I think) 1911 with hammer follow.

Does anyone know if these knockoffs function the same as the real thing inside the lockwork, or if parts interchange? I had rather doubted swapping in a "real" sear/disconnector would help, but I though I'd at least ask. :)

Blank Pistol with a Problem

Howdy Kaylee,

I don't know if any standard parts would interchange with that pistol,
but I'm going to assume that the function is the same as with any other
1911, with the possible exception of the breech lockup.

First, determine if the disconnector is functional. Pull the trigger and hold it to the rear. Hand-cycle the slide. If the hammer follows, the disconnector is worn. If it doesn't, proceed to...

Lock the slide to the rear, and let it fly bu thumbing the slidestop down,
finger off trigger. If the hammer falls to half-cock, there is wear on the
sear or hammer hooks.

Since it's a blank pistol, there probably isn't the same level of hardness
on the parts in the trigger group, so wear on one or all of these three parts is likely.

Most of those guns are made from soft metal, usually a cast zinc alloy. Even the internal parts are soft. If you put in good steel parts (assuming they will fit), they will soon wear out the contact areas on the other parts.

If the gun is one of the well made ones, the above might not apply, but I would not hold out a lot of hope for a permanent fix.
