Funky Situation

I wasn't a prohibited person before (numerous bk checks), and the only thing that has changed is the misdemeanor.

Therefore I'm not a prohibited person now.

...
Now my dad is talking of driving our motorcycles down to FL on vacation, and taking a (auto)train back.

...how do I get my guns back?
Do they have to go though an FFL in VA or FL?
Would it be economical to do a FL FFL and bring them back?
Or ship them to an FFL here?

Be careful with Amtrak's AutoTrain as Amtrak only allows firearms transport with checked baggage to/from locations that have checked baggage. Up until 2010, no firearms could be transported checked bag or not. Amtrak did not want to allow firearms transport, they were forced to by the federal govt. When I first used AutoTrain in 09, firearms transport was disallowed. I have not tried to travel via AutoTrain since then.

Noted, I'll look in to it, thanks!

Well my motion for early termination was denied a few weeks ago.
So it looks like I'll be off the hook April 14th. My 21st birthday is April 24th.

Rifles can be done in either state and handguns must be done here in Virgini' so I'm thinking I'll just head back down to FL for a visit and get the rifles transferred (FFL'd) over down there, and bring the big things (AR-15, Mosin, 100+lbs of ammo) back with me in my truck. I'll have the FFL mail the handgun to my FFL here in VA, after I get it cleared and arranged with him to do the transfer.

All in all should cost me about 100$ just in transfers/shipping + gas to get to Florida and back, but hey the other side of the line is MUCH worse and I'm pretty set on staying this side of it for the rest of my life.

Thanks all for the help!

I would advise you to call in advance in order to locate an FFL that will actually do the transfer....good luck in that regard, many do not want to deal with the 'trouble' of this type of transfer... they have to know/understand/abide by the laws of both states...There are many that have no problem, but a bunch won't do it. And I dare say that many do not know they can!

Find out in advance.

Yeah, [are we allowed to say shop names?] in Palm Bay said they had no idea what I was talking about. He was confused about the whole idea of running the transfer. They said "we don't do that here." I got tired of it and ended the conversation.
