First I purchase a Lee funnel to use with my reloading setup only to find that it doesn't appear it will function well reloading 223 shells. I figure it's no big deal, funnels aren't terribly expensive, so next time I place an order, I buy a nice Redding funnel. Surely this will be a step up, right? The Redding funnel arrives but doesn't look like it's going to work very well either. I can see space between the neck and the funnel where I shouldn't. What funnel do you guys use for dropping powder in 22 caliber cases? Or do you have some trick you would be willing to share.

Thanks for your help,

Lee Funnel

The red Lee funnel works perfectly loading .222 and .22-250 cases. Doesn't spill a flake of powder. It does real well on .30-06, .375 H&H and .45-70 also.

Don't know why yours won't work well with the .223.

Significent - I believe the operative word is "nearly". I've got a couple of funnels and they all work well with any .224 type casings I use, but the case necks are nearly the same diameter as the funnel hole. Is powder actually leaking past the neck if the funnel is held securely on the case? If so, I don't have a clue why your funnel would be too large since most powder funnels are made for .224 gauge and up.

Mal H: I havn't used either of the funnels figuring the fit would be a problem. I'll guess I'll just give them a try to see if powder actually leaks or not.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Yeah, but how many people have to take a reamer to their Lee to get it to work right?

:neener:

The solution to your problem is as close as your MidwayUSA catalog. They offer a funnel that has a set of like 15 attachements. Each of these "attachments" is for a given caliber. The "attachment" does on the neck of the funnel to adapt it to fit pretty much any caliber. Works great for me.
