Funny story and stuck projectiles...

A buddy was experimenting with loading subsonic .223 and after some success started creeping up on projectile weight... And recently bought himself a new barrel and gifted me his old Noveske 5.56 1:7 that has 4-5 72grain ballistic tip boat tails stuck between the gas port and muzzle... So I figured since it was basically free I wouldn't be out anything if I screwed it all up... So I took my only taper length drill (a .166") and managed to punch a hole clean thru the very center of the projectiles, and after beating the crap out of a 3/16" piece of drill rod... The remains still haven't budged even a fraction of an inch! So, I just now ordered a taper length #3 (.213) drill but figured I could ask around on here to see if anybody else has remedied a similar issue. (If not or if I end up seriously damaging the last few inches of barrel then it's no biggie, I'll use the other 11-12" of barrel to build something different with it, like a bolt action .223/5.56 pistol or something funky like a break open single shot .223/5.56 pistol or something)

Try soaking it in penetrating oil or Kroil for a few days and try it again.

I would resist the urge to drill anymore until I tried that.

Thats not likely to end well.

Go to any reputable hardware store and get some Kroil, as was mentioned earlier. You keep drilling, there won't be too much left to knockout ! Heed post #2 !

Drill bits tend to be far less consistent than an end mill. The point may not be perfectly centered which will cause it to want to cut off center. The longer and thinner the bit, the more it will wander. Land diameter in a .223 / 5.56 is .219". That leaves .003" between the bore and your drill bit. I seriously doubt that you will be able to keep that drill perfectly centered in the barrel.
I vote for the Kroil and patience as you work through this. The barrel may already be toast, but there's no point in guaranteeing that buy cutting corners.

What about copper solvent? Might help loosen the bullet to barrel connection.

I have used compressed air to force lube between bullet and barrel. Rubber tipped nozzle and it was a single bullet, but even with the hole drilled it may help to force the lube/solvent/unicorn tears into the desired area.

Use a propane torch, heat barrel till the lead drains out. The drive out empty jacket with a brass rod and mallet.

Best use for that is a tomatoe stake! If it has 5 squibs in it, it is toast anyway.

If the bullets impacted each other in the tube the barrel is likely bulged.

But you may be able to use a threaded rod just larger than the hole you've dirlled. Grind the treads down on one end so it will chase its own treads through the jacket and jam nut the other end with a weight and washer. Make a slide hammer, same idea as a dent puller!
