Fusion or Dan Wesson

I'd go with Fusion. He builds them 1 at a time, and it more personable to deal with if you have a problem. Plus, the gun is built exactly as you want it.
I've seen a few complaints about Dan Wesson on the 1911 forum - more than 1 person has claimed that Wesson tells people to send in the gun via ground shipping - and claim it is just machine parts. That is very strange.

Depends on what you want to spend. If you have the money to get a Fusion, I would go that route, but if you're wanting to save a few $$, DW is about the nicest production 1911 out there right now.
I'd be hesitant to believe that personally.

i have built two Fusion pistols and the experience is worth more than money. i used a special cold-blue technique, stoned my own sear, tweaked my own extractor, etc., etc. it was so cool. i splurged on some Esmeralda Grips, went with top-drawer sights and ended up feeling like Les Baer himself because the thing shoots as well as any 1911 that i know of. take the plunge. if you can strip a 1911 to the bare frame and reassemble it without sending emails and making phone calls, don't cheat yourself--BUILD IT AT HOME!

With that, I have a fusion commander on order... There is nothing like a hand built 1911. Plus Bob is an awesome guy to deal with... I've got a Fusion longslide and a DW C-bob. My experience with ordering the Fusion was great, and I couldn't be happier; Bob Serva was top notch.
That said, I wouldn't change anything about my c-bob either. If there is anything about the c-bob you don't like, go with the Fusion and have them build it exactly like you want it. If you like the c-bob as is, I'd get the c-bob and buy a few hundred dollars worth of reloading components.

I was debating the same thing. I ended up with a DW because I found a deal on it and it came out quite a bit cheaper than the Fusion (plus no waiting). I say if you want it made to your specs and want something you can't just go out and buy, get the Fusion. If you like the DW the way it is, get that. They both seem to be great. I really like my DW so far and I'm impressed with how well it's made.
The Fusion will have the extra hours of hand fitting parts but the DW has about the best fit and finish out of any production gun I've come across in that price range. I might end up with a Fusion at some point but the options I'd want would make it a lot more than a DW and I would be comparing it more to a Baer/Brown/Wilson/Etc at that point.

I have a Dan Wesson CBOB; nice tight fit on the frame and slide, great shooting gun. But I also have a Full size and Commander size Fusion kit on the way to build. I fitted and installed some parts on a Colt Combat Commander I have and then decided to get a Fusion kit and couldn't decide between the two. Don't think you could go wrong either way.

Bob Serva, Fusion Firearms president, is the past-president of Dan Wesson Firearms. he, better that anyone, can compare the two guns. Fusion guns are built with STI parts and are top shelf. i have built two, i have some experience. i hear nothing but praise for Dan Wesson guns, so do your homework.--robby

I love the fusions but to be honest look at the poor fit on the bobtail grips. That pic has been up there forever and needs to be replaced IMHO.

Fusion if you have the extra cash. DW will probably shoot just as good for less though
I have two CBOB's and one Fusion (with another on order as I type this), and honestly, it comes down to what you want in YOUR pistol. By comparison, if you are fine with the way the CBOB comes out of the box, it will save you $300-$500 over getting a bobtail built the way YOU want it at Fusion. Both shoot better than any of us will be able to take full advantage of, both are quality throughout, and both are beautiful. So, if you want it YOUR way, Fusion. If you like the features on the CBOB as is, DW.

those fusions sure are nice looking. there's quite a difference in price between fusion and dan wesson. it depends on how much you want to spend.
the fusion reviews online are somewhat spotty too. i was thinking of getting a fusion at one point, but decided against it. most reviews are favorable, but a lot are not, and fusion's customer service seems to be hit or miss.

Before you spend any money with Fusion I suggest you read the thread I posted today about my latest order. If they can't even ship the correct trigger - nor make their mistake right, I sure wouldn't spend any money with them on a custom gun...

This is the first time I've ever read anything negetive about Fusion. Everytime I've seen a thread opened about them, all I've ever read are stellar reviews. I can chime in and add that they do indeed ship out the wrong parts often, as I too have experienced this. I ordered a slim ambi safety and they sent me a wide ambi safety. I didn't even notice it until my gun was being built up.
My gunsmith also told me that every part from Fusion, the frame, slide and internals were some of the hardest ones he ever had to work with. He had to dedicate hours just fitting the Mag release. He said the beavertail didn't even fit in to any degree. It was definetly not cut to a .250 radius, that's for sure. He said it was definitly very labor intensive to even get the gun built up. His only positive comment was the nice slide to frame and barrel fitting that Fusion did at the factory. Not bashing Fusion, I do enjoy mine, but I wish I would have known that there are some major misses in the QC department.

The correct answer, of course, is get both. I did.

I'm sorry to hear of some of the troubles posted previously. Of course these experiences are just as important to note as all of the positives that are heard.
For my part, I can't say enough good things about Fusion. I've only ordered fully assembled custom weapons, but throughout the first and so far into my second, Bob and Dale have been very responsive and helpful with anything I need help with. My first weapon came out exactly as I wanted it, and is as perfect a weapon as I've ever held in my hands. The second one is under construction now. I think it's important to take both the good comments and the bad comments, do your research and come up with your own INFORMED decision.

I've placed many many orders with Fusion and have no negative issues what-so-ever, only positive. Both my Fusion pistols are perfect in every way. And for what is a custom gun, the prices are best in the market. DW's are great guns too, I had one for a short time awhile back, but sold it to fund my 2nd Fusion
They shipped the wrong part and offered to make it good and you trash the company. And, in the other thread, you say you're going to trash them every time you see a positive thread about Fusion. I guess this is the start. I'm not saying you received the best customer service, but now you're being vindictive.
I've never ordered from Fusion but have been thinking about doing so. Your post helped convince me to make a Fusion my next purchase.
