I already have a 2nd generation G22 and want a new Glock. Should I get another .40 (G23) or a 9mm (G19)? It would be used as a BUG when hunting, ccw weapon, target shooter, ect.

If you like .40S&W then get the 23, if you prefer 9mm get the 19, IHMO.

I'm not into conversion barrels, I'd rather just buy the gun in the caliber I like.

I have both. I carry the G19 and the 23 is the bedside gun. I used to cary the 23 but with the cost of ammo the G19 is the go to gun. When you take a class that burns through 1000 rounds, 40 gets very costly. Plus I figure two or three +P+ in your torso is going to ruin anyone's day.

I own both. They are both good guns. The only reason I would choose the 19 over the 34 is capacity and recoil. I carried the 19 till work had me purchase and carry the 23. I don't mind carrying the 23 at all. shoot them both and carry whichever gun you shoot best with.

I have both. With lots of experience with them both, I've migrated to using the G19 because it has better capacity, quicker follow up shots, and has had better reliability than my G23 (which is generally reliable, but has had some bobbles.) My G19 has been stellar. Superb accuracy. And with 124 gr. +P Gold Dots, terminal ballistics are relatively comparable to .40. I think 9mm and the G19 in particular represent Glock at its very best! For carry, I use the standard mag for 16 rounds capacity with a 17-rnd mag for reload. For home defense I use the G17 mag for 18-round total capacity. Sweet set-up!

I have a G23 only because I could not find a G19 anywhere at the time.
Years ago, I foolishly let my G19 slip away in a "mercy" trade with a friend who foolishly bought a G29 for his wife!!
I finally found someone who wanted a G29 and had a G23 to trade.
I'd still like to find a G19 some day!!
I'm hampered by Her Highness who has restricted me to trades only!!

I am more accurate with the G19 so that's what I would go with.

Do you want to be able to shoot faster, more accurately, have a larger mag capacity, cheaper ammo and have about the same ballistic performance as the .40? Then I'd go with the G19. The 9mm mags also load more easily than the .40 with glocks.

I traded my G 19 for a XD 40. I love it. But I started to miss the old Glock so I bought G 23. Now I have A great XD and a great G 23. I haven't missed the G 19 since then.

Get the 23 and trade your 22 for a 19. ;)

You'll probably like the 23 better than the 22. Everyone I've had shoot mine back to back did.

1KPerDay,

that is my experience as well. for whatever reason, i shoot the G 23 and G 19 better than i can shoot the full size 22 and 17. don't really know why.

The questions that need to be answered to make this decision can only be answered by you:

1. Is caliber/magazine compatibility important to you? The G22 mags can be used in the G23. Stocking on one caliber also makes your ammo stores more efficient.

2. Is cost of shooting important to you? If you are ok with a slightly increased cost of ammo, or will end up shooting the G22 more frequently anyway, then the G23 would be the right way to go. If you want less expensive target shooting, the G19 is your winner.

3. Is variety important to you? I personally do not like a wide variety of calibers but I know people who like plenty of shooting options.

Either one will do the job. The question is WHAT job is it doing for you.
