Comparing the specs posted on the Glock website, it appears that the G40 is a G35 slide on a G20/21 frame with a new 10mm barrel? The difference in weight between a G35 and a G40 is only 28 grams, which might be accounted for by the larger frame?
In comparison to the G40, the G21 slide/barrel is heaver by about 32 grams. The G20 slide/barrel is heavier by about 72 grams.
If this is right, the G40 is just a G20LS (Longslide Slim), sorta akin to the G30S just having a thinner slide stuck on it.
If this pans out to be true, I bet if you have already have a G20/21 frame and a G35 slide, you can make your own G40 by putting the G35 slide on your G20/21 frame. All you need is a barrel. You could have your own G40, today, just by swapping the frame and reaming out a barrel!
I already have a G20 and a G21. And I don't have a full frame 9/40 yet. So it seems to me, I would rather wait until LWD starts selling G40 barrels, and I would just buy a G35 if I wanted a "G40".
Conversely, if you were to buy a G40, and you have a full size 9/40 frame, you could turn your G40 into a G35 by swapping frame and barrel!
Glock = legos??
If anyone out there has both a G17/22 frame and a G21/20 frame, they could verify if the difference in weight of frame plug empty mag is more or less 28-29 grams?
And if anyone has a G35 and a G21/20, they might verify that you can put the G35 upper on the G21/20 frame?
Granted, there could be some changes to make things compatible. But wouldn't it be great if this is possible? One difference I believe is that the G21/20 has a slightly longer striker cocking distance. And of course, there could be differences in locking block geometry. But the current info makes me hope they are compatible.
