G43 in sporter stock

I've got a chance to buy a G43 in a monte carlo style stock. The working parts of the gun seem to be in very good condition, although some of the bluing has not withstood the ravages of time. Aside from the stock, all the serialized parts match.

How much would the value of this gun increase if it were placed in an original stock?

By original stock I take it you mean not the original but a correct one. For all-matching parts gun (sans the stock) I'd say it could easily go for $2,000-2500. The mix-matched frankenstein jobs go for about $1500-2000, and the all-matching sniper rigs are up around 4k.

Cost aside, I'd pick it up if it were a good deal, then pop it in an original style stock for appearance.

My sentiments exactly. However, be prepared to cough up the cost of a nice Garand for a replacement G/K43 stock with matching handguard and bands. Heck, the just the trapdoor buttplates on Ebay have topped $100 many times (though they rarely pop up)

The replacement stock parts and front sight hood (missing for some reason) will be more expensive than the rifle.

Part of that is the weirdness of collector values, and part of it is that the guy who was selling it didn't know what he had.

::sigh:: If only I were alive when those were a dime a dozen and sporterizing mil surplus rifles was economical.
