The Alabama Gun Collector's Association is having there Spring show on March 26th & 27th at the BJCC in Birmingham. This show will be honoring our military and veterans. You can go to the website and check it out. http://www.algca.org/ They are having special guest from the "Anola Gay" flight and one of the Tuskegee Airmen and are supposed to have over 650 tables of guns and memorabilia for sale or trade. They allow people to come in off the street with private guns for sale or trade. It is supposed to be the best show they have had since the 80's.

Same here in S Florida, more junk than guns about 50% of the time and stand in line to pay $8. :barf:

I've been complaining a lot too lately, but I was actually surprised by a good one this past weekend. Picked up some reloading equipment for a pretty good price and my dad got a '93 Mauser in 7x57 that was in really good condition for only $90 OTD.
This was the first good one I've seen in a long time though. And they still had their fair share of bad deals. Like the guy that was trying to sell a 40 year old Rockchucker for $125 and wouldn't budge on the price. But hey, it was much better than usual.

The most recent one we had in Valdosta Ga. was decent for a small town I think. The prices were great. My friend got a new Ruger LCP for 300 otd. All the prices were fair. The one thing it was lack on though was older fire arms. I only saw a few old weapons I was looking for a Webly in .38 to buy but I didn't see a single one.

No more gunshows for me...

The last I attended was three years ago and it was a total dud. LOTS of glassbead/wire jewelry, Elvis velvet paintings and that sort of junk.

Quite a few crappy old guns at ridiculous prices. A bunch of brand new guns at higher than local gunshop prices.

As for me, I'm never paying the price of admission for another show.

Seems to me the last GOOD gunshow I attended was back in the 80s. They seem to be a thing of the past and recent reports from other areas of the country pretty much confirm what I've seen here.

anybody from SW LA or SE TX here?

The Lake Charles LA gunshow always left me wanting a bit more...there are deals to be made but you've really got to look and work for them...AND you ain't getting no Python for cheap so forget that! :banghead:

I see the same prices at the gunshows that I see in the gunstore...I don't see what all the fuss is about - but then again, I keep going back with the hope that my deal of a lifetime will be there - or maybe because I like looking at guns! :D

I went to the Reliant Center show in Houston this weekend - my first really big gunshow. I was impressed by the number of vendors and by the number of items. There was plenty of novelty stuff but also a large variety of guns.

By far the best deals I saw were on the AR type rifles.

So what's my point? Nothing really that hasn't already been made...just wanted to see if anyone was in SW LA!

I go to gunshows more for entertainment purposes, as I hardly ever find a good deal like I can online or at my local gunshop. From my unfortunate experience most dealers seem to be rude, know it alls with asking prices that approach visions of grandeur.

I go to the local gun shows because it is a really convenient way to see a lot of different guns and actually handle them without having to ask a gun store employee to get them out from under the counter for you.

These are current production guns, and you can answer questions for yourself like "how much difference is there between a Glock 21 and a 21SF?.

The prices on these commodity guns is usually competitive enough where I have bought quite a few at the shows.

I like the jerky, too!

Bob

My personal experience has been that at larger gunshows in or near major metro areas, the prices tend to be higher - my guess is that a lot of the foot traffic is less gun-educated.

The one out in Wilmington, OH tends to have better deals in general. Can't say they often beat my favorite bottom dollar LGS though

I rather enjoy gun shows. I'm a younger shooter, so I had no chance to partake in the apparent golden age of gun shows that existed in whatever period an older shooter happened to go to gun shows for the first time. And I think that's key to this discussion.

It's not that gun shows have changed overly since their inception, as they have always had their share of junk and overpriced goods, it's that when you were new to gun shows they held such wonder, always seeing guns that were new and fascinating where once one has seen all these things, they lose their mystique. Over time, the memories of the rare gem have overcome the memories of slightly overpriced and uninteresting pieces and have come to characterize those memories. I shant explain here how our memory basically makes stuff up on the fly and how memories of our youth are always colored with either fondness or bitterness, though it does bear keeping in mind when exploring this topic.

The simple truth is that gun shows are not to be considered retail locations. If you want to go to one specifically to buy a gun at a deal, then you are better off browsing gunbroker instead. A gunshow should be considered entertainment, to go and browse a great deal of firearms, even if they are overpriced. Let's be honest, a $7 entry fee is a pitance if you go alone. You waste more than that every week by keeping the AC/Heater on in your car. You spend that much per year in electricity by NOT replacing your existing old fashioned incandescent light bulbs with new technology for each bulb. $7 is less than the cost of seeing a movie in a theater these days, for about the same amount of time to explore the gunshow. You should got to a gunshow with a couple friends with the goal of having a good time. If you happen to find a great deal, that's excellent, but it shouldn't be the goal of your trip.

I go to the Central Florida/Orlando one, it's rare though. I have met the one guy there worth knowing a figurative figure you could say. He gets there at 9 a.m. in the parking lot. He's an older guy with a grey beard and a trunk full of old guns. His car is beat up but still runs, usually American made and his eyes tell a story of living a good but hard life, one where he's earned every dime he made and maybe worked a little extra for the money he never got. He opens the trunk and watches for folks to walk by, looking for folks he thinks are 'good people.' If he thinks you are a criminal he ignores you or tells you to move along. The guy has had these guns sitting in his home for years if not decades and he wants them going to a good place, not end up being used in a crime. If you are a guy out with your girlfriend and wife(I just caught that as I was rereading for spelling errors, but hey if you do you are a lucky guy) and you look clean cut he'll smile at you and wave you over. He'll make some nice chit chat, talk to you about you are doing there, your taste in guns and such, maybe some politics and then the eye candy will come out. Some of it is worth it like an older 1911 that's mechanically sound but the bluing is rough. The kindly man will ask $400 for it since it's generally a Colt. Next he might take out a model 15 or 10 and ask for $300 but will take $280.

He might have a shotgun he's only asking a $100 for. He'll maybe have a Savage 1910 he can let go for $150 with only one magazine for the gun but its bluing is gone. Once in a blue moon you'll see a S&W 28 4" for three hundred but more likely four hundred, it will be used in the standard norm of gun ownership. Maybe you'll find a Colt .25 pocket gun. The kindly old man is selling off his collection because he can't afford to shoot these guns anymore. Or he wants them to go somewhere he feels they'll be good and so maybe he can buy that "one gun," the really expensive one he never thought he would own, off the proceeds of his sale. He's not looking to get rich but he's also not looking to get robbed either. If he likes you and gets a good feel from you, you might, and that's a big might, get a great deal. I got a model 15-3 4" from one such guy for $240 that was mechanically great that has functioned flawlessly with LRN and Winchester Personal Protection .38 Special +P JHP, it's only mar is a small patch on the top where the bluing is worn. It was his truck gun and now it is my truck gun. I've gotten a Bersa Ultra Compact 9mm for $260 that was nearly new(supposedly never fired but it looked like it had been cleaned recently) in the box, it took some haggling and hanging out with the man who was in seemingly chronic back pain but after half an hour he took the cash to go buy a H&K, the Bersa has given me great service and performance.

The moral of the story, go for the Georgia-Arms canned heat ammo because their ammo is just plain great for .44 magnum and .357 magnum and keeps me in practice ammo they are the reason I go three or so times a year, the website might not have supplies but the gun show guys do. Enjoy the pulled pork sandwhiches, get some great beef jerky, and unlike a strip club you can usually touch the goods on display.

Look for the older guys getting rid of guns they haven't shot in years, I've seen Colt snub nose revolvers at insane prices but I can't buy everything I want anymore, law school loans, a growing successful small business(hope to keep it going after I find a job), there'll be lots of older guns that are in great shape. The younger the guy typically, the less worthwhile the gun and the less worthwhile the price. The older guys won't give you a steal but you'll still likely get a deal. I say this with a caveat though. Before "flippers" I've seen these guys in action buy a gun for $200 up front to less than an hour later sell it for $500 to those who seem very eager to pay without a background check. $500 for a gun that retails new for less than that. Report it to the ATF guys on location but don't expect them to do anything.

Look for the older guys, be fair and polite, and you might just get a deal.

At the Ft Worth Gunshow year before last I got a SIG226 for $399 in excellent condition. It was my "steal" of the year

At that show there were good and bad deals, but...... I still like to go.

Its also a great place to spend quality time with my 15 year old son, who absolutely loves them.

I may be a minority, but I just enjoy looking and holding the guns.
If its a great deal that I can get, I buy..... if not I walk

It sort of like a "museum walk" for me......(They dont let you buy the mastodon skeleton do they?)

With the prices of movie tickets($12), $7 isnt that bad for entertainment

In my hometown of Frisco, Texas we have had 2 in the last year.

I almost "bit" on a used M1A scout for $1200 there was a FAL that
almost followed me home as well

So..... I go...... I dont always buy........ prices seems to be 5-10% more than internet prices. I don't really mind to pay a little bit more to see the rifle, vs a grainy picture on the web. I also have to see what mood the WIFE is in before I go.......
..... c'mon.... you know what I mean.......... my wife REVENGE shops when I buy.............

I also have to see what mood the WIFE is in before I go.......
..... c'mon.... you know what I mean.......... my wife REVENGE shops when I buy.............

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has to put up with that. She'll hit up Victoria's Secret and various jewelry stores like it's nothing if I buy a gun without her ok.

+1 on the wife revenge shopping. She will hit the mall quick if I come home with a gun that wasn't previously discussed.

The last few gun shows have been pretty lame here in Jacksonville fl - they always smell like farts and old man coffee breath. lol I find the same deals at my lgs or better.

Old men and coffee breath? Getting personal, here? Be kind, young one. Your day may come....(probably sooner, with your attitude!:)
Gun shows here in Virginia can be fun.. Three years ago I got a NIB CZ75 for $330, and 500 rounds of Win NATO spec 124 grain 9mm for $99.95....Plus I got asked to join several different militias, which did not appear to be "well regulated"....and I saw some guys buying AK 47 that looked like they were going to casting call for "Deliverance"...(Come on, guys; those weapons are for fun. They are not deer rifles!)

Dude! Seriously? You resurrected a FIVE MONTH OLD thread
to comment about someone else making fun of a guy at gun show?

So, according to all of the whiners here, let's just stop all gun shows because everything is crap and overpriced...........wow...............way to feed the brady group folks

Mybe you need to find better shows............I have found Swede Mausers for $55, SKB NIB shotguns for less than $500, M1 Garands for less than $400, and countless S&W revolvers for great deals

Maybe you need to focus on what you want and only look for it
