Galco King-Tuk - Makes My Drawers Fall Down

I have a Galco King-Tuk holster that is too slippery on the body side. I've been wearing it for a while now, but the leather is still very slick on the inside, causing the whole rig to slide downward constantly. I thought the leather would have 'roughed up' a bit by now, but it hasn't. Getting sick of pulling my pants up every 10 seconds. :banghead:

Anybody else have this problem with the King-Tuk?

Any tips on fixing this problem? Sandpaper to rough up the leather? :uhoh:
 
Might not be the rig. You might be suffering from 'noassatall' syndrome like me. Google 'Perry' suspenders and buy a pair...problem solved. :scrutiny:
 
I wear a sturdy Carhart belt. It isn't reinforced like some 'gun belts' are, but it's a solid leather belt. Is that really the problem? Doesn't bother me with the other dozen guns I carry a dozen different ways. Maybe that's it, though. Maybe a little of that and a little of the aforementioned noassatall syndrome.

The rig slides against my boxers. The surface of the interior of the holster is too slick against my boxers, and the whole rig just slides down. I carry at about 3-4 o'clock.

And suspenders are out of the question. Not my style.

So, roughing out the leather is not what I need to do here?
 
The belt should be fine, since your support isn't on the belt itself, but moreso on the pants. The fact that the belt is supporting the pants is enough, in my experience.
Can you take a picture of the inside of the holster that touches your leg?
Also, what gun are you carrying?

I carry the same way and use a Crossbreed holster and haven't had any issues (unless I don't wear a belt).
 
dunno, it sounds like what I had happening with my SuperTuck until I got a real gunbelt, at which point the problem went away - a good double-layer belt from BeltMan (or similar) couldn't hurt, after all.

Is this with a particularly heavy gun as compared to others you carry?
 
I "Googled" this holster, and see nothing about the holster itself that should cause this. It has a substantial backing as well as what look like sturdy clips, not J-hooks, which are notorious for lack of support. Is that backing stiff, or does it conform to the shape of your body? A possible explanation, if you wear it directly on the "point" of your hip and you have a thin build, is that there is not enough support. Try moving it back farther so more of the holster's backside contacts your backside.

I like Carhartt clothing myself, but the belts are almost certainly not designed to bear weight. Try grasping the edges of the belt between your thumb and second finger and try to push the center of the belt with your index finger. It should not bend. Finally, some cheap pants skimp on the number of belt loops.
 
Please consider buying a gun belt. Carhartt does not make them. There are some who exclaim that a person doesn't really have to buy a gun belt, but most souls who carry a pistol of any size and weight are convinced by experience that for a holster to perform properly, a purpose-built gun belt is necessary.

My experience with very many holsters bearing several handguns for nearly forty years of concealed carry is that a gun belt, from a quality source, is not only worth every penny, it's essential. I had easily spent the money that one actual gun belt would cost by buying other "heavy duty" leather belts from department stores and online vendors trying to save money. All in vain. Take whichever path you want, but I'm trying to encourage you to take the shorter route and get a proper belt.
 
I'm carrying Glocks (19/26). There is no problem with the weight distribution or anything like that. The problem is that the surface on the inside of the holster is glossy and smooth. This glossy surface causes the rig to slide downward when up against clothing.

I can't believe I'm the only one with this issue.

Also, I do have a Crossbreed holster that I carry with other guns. The leather on the inside of the Crossbreed is unfinished and rough (not glossy and finished). The Crossbreed rig does not slide on me at all, even with a Sig P220 riding in it.

I thought I'd try out the King-Tuk for my Glocks since it was cheaper than the Crossbreeds and I've had good luck with Galco in the past.
 
Buckeye, I had the same issue, which I alleviated with better belts. That might be your solution. I didn't have the problem with other holsters nearly as much as the kingtuk, and occasionally, I still have to hike-em up a little bit.

Until I got a boston gun belt every rig I tried carrying in slid down, including the galco king tuk. I carry at 4 oclock with undershirt tucked in and have no more problems with my rig sagging my pants down.
I love the king tuk and it paired with a "gun belt" is quiet comfortable.
 
I, too have the no butt problem. Wearing a non-reinforced wildrness style or 5.11 TDU belt helps me tremendously. Even with a high quality, sturdy leather dedicated gun belt...I still tug at my pants from time to time. I have no idea why those flimsy little belts work so well, but they do. Even when wearing a long slide polymer pistol and three mags in competition...the non reinforced wilderness or tdu belts work for me. I'm not resorting to suspenders, no sir. :)
 
I know a lot of "real men" scoff at the thought of wearing suspenders, but they help a great deal. I ordered a pair of Perry's so I could mod them (replaced the plastic clips with leather wrap around the belt thingys) and wore them around the house, and I have to tell ya.....eliminated ALL the weight of the gun/holster.

Face it...some of youz guys are shaped in such a way that no matter how tight you cinch up, even a real gun belt....it's gonna be uncomfortable because it's so tight, and gravity is still gonna win out....you know who you are....

Try suspenders...wear them around the house....ok, when the wife's not home....they WORK!!
And hey...with some wife beaters, they look kinda cool.;)
 
A valid point and good idea rayban, especially coming from a belt maker as you are, who has as good an understanding of the issues as anybody.

Since most are looking for help for concealed carry purposes, I'd think suspenders over a tucked in t-shirt/undershirt and then a cover garment (I always think Hawaiian or similar shirts) over that to hide your holster/gun/suspenders really should work out well.
 
You are not the only one. I have a kingtuk and I carry a full size 1911 in it. Using a proper gunbelt does help, but doesnt stop the sliding completely. I have the same syndrome as you, lol, and not having that rear bump on the body does make things more difficult. I think you may be right about sanding the leather backing, I'd just do it carefully and with fine grit.
 
I had a similar problem when I carried using a "heavy" Carhart belt, also. I always thought the Carhart belt was thick with good support. Then I stepped up and purchased a couple of A&G Custom Gun Leather belts. No more problem. Yes, the belt is a very important part of the equation, more important than most give it credit for. I use Theis IWB holsters which have the rough side of the leather against my body. I find the more I wear these, the smoother that rough side of the leather becomes. Maybe not as smooth as the King Tuk, which I have owned, but smooth and slick, none the less.

That just isn't always true. Everyone's body is different and affects carrying differently. Not having a rear end makes finding holster/belt combos difficult. I know from experience I can use anything that uses a j hook. The belt keeps my pants up, and the gun does it's best to pull part of my pants down. It just ends up looking awful, the gun moves and it is uncomfortable.

It took awhile, but I finally found a few combinations of kydex, kydex/leather hybrids and wilderness style belts that do what I want comfortable without dictating the rest of my wardrobe. I can go so far as to carry a glock 34 in that configuration, but it is usually a 19 or a 26. I can run through an IDPA competition all morning and midday without ever once needing to adjust my pants up a bit. Now I have a 1911 commander, a very nice leather IWB holster and a custom made leather gunbelt that are all great...but combine them all and I tug at my pants all day long.

I am 46 years old, 6'1 and right at 300 pounds. I started wearing suspenders about a year ago and they really help with keeping my britches up on my "delicate pear-shaped physique".

I have found that with a cover shirt most people don't even know you have them (hmmm, kind of like a conceal carry). The worst I hear is that my boss jokes around and tells people "don't let the suspenders fool you, he's not amish."

I buy mine at "Workingman's Store" and they have them as large as anyone could ever need.
