The ones from Walmart have a red glow that is visible when activated. That being said if properly placed, they probably wouldn't notice. OTOH have two cams, one watching the other so to speak.

Even some of the blackout models, like Moultrie, have a reduced visible signature, but if seen straight on, can still be seen. Most of your standard $80-200 models have a visible IR signature. Depending on the model, it may flicker very briefly or glow for 1-2 seconds.
Many cameras also have a very detectable auditory noise. It is the IR filter being moved into or out of position for the image.
