I just got home form Houston tonight. I heard the same ad on the radio. Wish I had the time to stop buy and look around.

BTW, Nice Ice Storm!

Beaumont,TX

Sale started today-- 50 Bucks off on less than 299.00 guns

100 bucks off on guns over 399.00

Beaumont store had around 20 M-44 surplus $119.00

nope, just on rifles/handguns that are 299 or more, some of the clearance ones that are cheaper are allready marked down anyway. saw a nice t/c 22 for 319, would then put that price at 269. you never see a t/c for under 300. Also the Gander at 59S. , has stevens rifles for 249, in various cals; very nice to get a brand new centerfire, for 250. bucks.

machIV, yep actually it was at 259, then minus the 50 bucks, for that stainless. they have the regular marlin m2's for 169.

OK, it's guns that are MORE than $299. Oh well--too good to be true.

I happened to call the Gander Mountain store 20 miles away (the only one in FL) to see what .22LR rifles they had in stock. The guy on the phone told me they had a ruger 10/22 for $160, is that right? I thought the 10/22 normally goes for $250+ in these parts.

Maybe it's used? Actually $160 isn't too far out of line with what the New York State prices are for the base model beech-and-blue 10/22. Dick's always has them for $159, so Gander has to keep theirs priced around that. Definitely under $200, anyway. My local Gander was selling the stainless/synthetic one for $229 last time I looked.

I love Gander Mountain. The one up by here usually seems to have the best prices in the area. Other than Dunhams, which has a great seletion of AK-47's and SKS's among other cheap Eastern European Rifles, and some of those neat Hi-Point Carbines. I went to a gun show in York recently and was very dissapointed at the prices the dealers were asking for used guns. I was looking for a good priced used glock and most of them at the show were priced only slightly lower than a brand new one at Gander.

Gander mountain added there extended warranty program to all of there firearms. They use to charge $ 19.95 for it . Now they say it is included,
but they raised there prices $ 50.00 to $ 200.00 for each gun.
They even did this on the used guns.

Mine is extreamly high priced we are talking $700 for a remington 700 SPS. If it says Kimber, Glock or smith on it HA you better take a 2nd mortage on your house to buy it. They are wanting $1200 for Kimber Custom II and $700 for a glock.

I will not buy from then anymore cut and dry after that beat the action of one of my rifles needing a scope mount one was on there with some blue lock tite and they had damaged the rifle really bad. I am talking 50 to 100 DENTS hes DENTS in the reciever. I told them it better get fixed in 3 days or else. It was fixed 3 days later (Action needed a blue job anyways). Although I did not want to get the action blued this way but it looks good now. they are still getting no business of mine.

This is nothing I seen a run of the mill Winchester 94 in 30-30 after winchester announced it was closing with a $1700 price tag on it (USED in about 50% condition)

I went in there asking for a CZ 75 P-01 the other day. The guy didn't have it, but said he could order it quick. I ask the price, he said ~$615 (which I think is MSRP for that model). Pretty ridiculous.

Then they had a full rack of M44s for sale, and I got all excited. Except I look at the sign and it says $150, and nearly all of the guns are rotten, force matched, and still absolutely covered in cosmo. If you're gonna rip me off like that at least get one of the kids behind the counter to hose down the guns a bit so I don't have to scrub my hands before touching anything else.

For me their prices are all over the map, most high, maybe some steals. I got my 870 Express there for the lowest price, and I saw a great deal on a CD HP last time, but I'm just not willing to go back every week to just happen upon the big deal.

Only thing I really like and appreciate is that they have all of their rifle and pistol magazines on display on the racks, so you don't have to ask for one behind the counter or something.

Also, anyone frequent the Houston store on 290? Do they still have that bubba'd Mosin on the used rack, with the completely warped camo synthetic stock and something like a $200 price tag?

Been there for like the past two years, lol. I forgot to "visit" it last time I was there. :) Poor thing.

And the counter people are almost universally inept in my experience.

Thats ok.

We get a kick out of those customers that expect a part time employee to know everything about every make, model, caliber and gauge of firearm out there including what the best accessories are for them.

That and all the load data, components and supplies for every caliber gauge right off the top of our heads.

Go easy on the poor stupid counter help. We have to deal with unreal expectations every day.

lol i guess they are selling there guns at normal price then! and not
4x the MRSP like normal!:barf:

Prices are starting to go up so fast on stuff that it's hard to know what is a good price.

Our company sells petroleum products in 55 gallon drums. The price of a new (empty) steel drum just went from $20 to $50 two weeks ago. That means the price of whatever is in it just went to $1 a gallon for just the container.

That poor Mosin...I though it had left some time ago...they had an old Browning "Sweet Sixteen" in pretty sad shape for a while as well, covered in rust. They were asking $700 for it last time I was there.

+1

I guess this means that now Gander's guns will be about the same price as Sportsman's Warehouse?

Seriously, man, Gander always seems to be 20%-30% over everyone else, including the little shops. And the counterpeople are almost universally inept in my experience.

I had it in my mind last night to grab the manager's ear and explain to him how long that thing had been there, and then take it home, get a new Mosin stock for it, and make it a "project" of mine. I don't know if they can be reasoned with though, from the sound of it, heh.

The problem is that we look at clerks at Gander Mountain to know what
they are doing because that is there department. But with them only willing
to pay $ 8.50 an hour instead of hiring some one who know what they are
doing then you get what you get. No only are they charging so much over the
going price but many times the sale of used firearms that are supose to be
" gunssmith certified " are not even checked out except for one of those
$ 8.50 an hour clerks

Exactly.

Most of us are college students who only know one or two areas regarding firearms.

For example, at my store I'm known for my knowledge of home defense firearms and I hunt deer in the fall. Thats it.

I don't know what the best round is for Elk because I've never hunted Elk.

I don't know the best round for goose because I've never hunted goose.

Thats the stores fault though, not the clerks, we are just trying to earn our pay so we can get on with our lives.

If you really want it changed write the corp HQ or snag a manager and let them know. Get them to hire more full timers and lower their prices and maybe you'll get what you want.

FYI, The gander corp is owned by the same guys who own the Holiday gas stations.

So, when you wonder why your getting the quality of employees you are just think that your essentially being helped by the same class of people.

My friend, the now infamous Bubba Special Mosin at the Gander on 290 - is still there.

As of a few weeks ago - PRICE REDUCED! Only $180 now!

i went to our local gander mountain once... when they opened

i bet the $950 garand that i'm sure the CMP would sell as rack grade is still there

My local gander mountain ussually has a mediocre selection of used rifles and shotguns that are all priced at around 10% over original MSRP. Every now and then they have a good deal but their racks are typically full of overpriced, roughly used guns. The last time I went I found a 590 on the used racks that looked brand new so I grabbed it. It was nestled in between two 91-30 mosins(round reciever, plain stock, very rough) that were each priced $189.
