Gander Mountain Disappointment

Over here in Ohio they've always been behind a counter, except of course for the used guns which you are still able to handle without asking.

Kind of a shame, the new policy, if you ask me.

I, like many, enjoyed fondling the merchandise. It's been a few years, but 3 of my last 4 long guns came from Gander. Part of the decision to buy there was influenced by gift cards, but a bigger part was being able to shoulder the guns without having to wait 10 min. for a sales guy behind the counter. I spent many a lunch hour at the Mtn.

Also, back then, they had some decent deals every once in a while. And yes, I would always get a NIB, not the display.

It doesn't make any sense to me why they would want to sell the display model anyway, unless it was the last one and they were not getting any more in.

If I had more of that model in stock, I wouldn't sell the display model, for full price or for a discount. If the display model is getting shop worn, I want to keep the shop wear to it and not keep roatating in other new guns to get shop worn. It really isn't any different than the $1k+ bigscreens on display at the electronic stores...

Gander in Winchester, Va has changed too. I have to say that if I want a new gun I don't really want a floor model thats been banged around. Now Cablea's in Hamburg,PA still has racks and racks of used guns out for you to have and hold, although they all have trigger locks on. Thier new guns are behin the counter.
