The Gander saga continues ...

A defunct Gander Mountain store in my town is in the process of reopening as "Gander Outdoors".

Question : Who owns Gander Outdoors? Is it the famous (notorious) Marcus Lemonis ? It is not my intention to reopen a discussion of Lemonis (of Camping World) , rather to determine who is behind the new Gander store ; i.e. will I be looking forward to shopping there. While we are at it , is Gander Outdoors a source for guns , ammo and such?

Gander outdoors is owned by camping world. Prices will most likely be super high like they were when GM owned them. When GM first opened it was filled with ammo, camo, guns, bows, fishing and lots of taxidermy and decent prices. 2010-closure seemed the yuppies took over and removed every single mount because it wasn't PC and downsized anything hunting and shooting and packed the stores full of Columbia and UA clothes. Towards the end i seen more woman shopping there for clothes than men.

Last time I shopped Gander Mt. was when they had a sale on shotshells by the case. Got it home and opened it only to find the "bargain" had 20 round boxes instead of 25, with no mention at the store. Of course, no returns on ammunition.

Fool me once......

Ours has been replaced by Orscheln Farm and Home. Their prices are higher than Academy which is literally right down the street. I doubt they will get any of my business.

Gander W currently has 'some' items at decent prices online.
Gander M was always a bit high, but still lower than Bass Pro.

Houston had 3-4 G M locations, IIRC. Slowly coming back as G C. but not in my neck of the woods

It is owned by Camping World. I read the store that closed near me is reopening some time as whatever they are calling it now. I bought a few things at the old GM. They had some nice 9 mm surplus pistols so i bought one. The only gun I bought there. Everything else was just too expensive. I did get some nice socks one time on clearance. Sometimes they had 22 ammo when no one else did.

Prices at local Gander Outdoor are very reasonable in my opinion. For example, I bought a G-42 at a LGS for $425. They have the same pistol new @ $399.00. The prices are nowhere near what the former Gander Mountain prices were.

The local Gander Mt. was a good store in it's time , one had to be patient and selective regarding prices , but the staff in the gun shop was made up of some really good people.

But now --- Gander Outdoors = Camping World = Lemonis. Right on my traffic pattern , but I will not be a customer , as per the wishes of the owner.

Darn , I had hoped for better. Question asked and answered , Thank you. 'Ski.

Once upon a time Gander was good. Within the last..2 years it had not been up to par... I have no need to see what the new and improved version is going to be. Truth be told, I still miss Sportsman's Warehouse before they closed their stores east of the Mississippi. Cabela's and Scheel's are ok, Midsouth Shooters fill in the rest.

Camping World Holdings owns gander mountain from a bankruptcy auction sale that required they keep at least 17 stores open. Camping World Holdings is owned by Good Sam Enterprises; a company noted for selling RV insurance such as road aid, full insurance, etc. (I have their road aid since they are one of the few that will handle the towing of both a truck and a trailer.)

If you have a Good Sam Club membership you can save an additional 10% from Gander Outdoors and Camping World. Just saying....

The new Gander where I live has very good prices on a wide variety of guns, primers, powders, and ammo. I have no problem who the owner is. As long as his store has fair pricing and availability, I will shop there. Being a Good Sam member gets yous 5% off everything including guns and ammo

Yep, Camping World. I won't darken their doors after what that dude said about Trump supporters.

I’m with you, except I did go into the one in Fredericksburg when they opened to check them out.
Their prices were ok, but the store was a dump. Unfinished floors, and basically looked like they swept the place then put fixtures wherever. And the staff didn’t seemed very interested in helping anyone.

I am not familiar with the Camping World story.

The Gander Outdoors near me has very low prices. Comparable to buying online. They sold me a Smith & Wesson SW22 for $329.

Their selection is not optimal, because you can't order anything they don't already sell. I wanted a rifle in Ruger .204, and they couldn't help me.

The people there are great. Of course, this is a very red county full of wonderful people, so it would have been hard for Gander to find jerks and slackers to work for them.

The Gander here, when it was open, was my go to when everyone else was out of stock.

Not many people were aware but they price matched the local stores if you had the ad. So the expensive box of ammo came down to a good price.

They always had stuff in stock because of the high prices.

I asked mine to do it on two items they were way higher on and was told no or had to get a manager. One item was on sale on their website (rain gear BOGO 1/2 off. The girl said they honor their website sales only on their product. I got to the register where 2 managers and the cashier and a gun counter guy were standing around and the manager said no he wouldn't price match it but I could go home and order it online. I said or you could just do it here so I don't have to do that and the local store gets the $. The other manager takes the items off the counter and says is there anything else I can help you with? I kind of felt like 1) I was being scammed and worse 2) Him removing the items and basically kicking me out like I was trying to scam them. I showed them on my phone its gander rain gear and its half off on your website. I didn't go back until they started to close and got some good deals.

The first item was like $30 difference and I showed him the sales ad online and he says let me show my manager. Manager says only this one time I will do this. I said well if its going to get anyone in trouble ill just get it from the other store. Again made me feel like an idiot.

Different company; different business model

"Lemonis co-owns the company with private equity firm Crestview Partners and plans to retain "substantial control" through his ownership of ML Acquisition and ML R.V. Group."
Lemonis political views alone are enough to keep me out of his stores. A slightly higher price at my privately owned LGS is fine with me. When it gets down to me saving $50 on a purchase I may own for the next thirty years before passing it on to my grandchildren is far more important than giving the business to someone who badmouths the President of the country that gave this ******* the opportunity to make his hundreds of millions.

I just went to our new Gander store, VERY disapointed. VERY high prices eg: Winchester white box 45 acp 230 gr. fmj. $78.00 for 200. My local Walmart has the same for $65.00. It looks like they took the same inventory and just re arrainged the store.

I wonder why it is that they seem to be operating the stores in different areas of the country with varying business models.
