Gander Mountain Prices...What Are They Thinking???

I will agree that in general, Gander Mountain firearm stuff is priced at the high end of the scale.

But, it has been many years since I entered a local gun store in my parts because they never have what I am looking for and the folks behind the counter rub me the wrong way.

I do most of my shopping for on line or at gun shows. Still don't like many of the sales people at gun shows, but they have what I am looking for.

Back to Gander Mountain, I have found several firearms there that were not easily found and were priced reasonably. Example, a Browning 410 O/U shotgun. Run of the mill self defense firearms are high at Gander Mountain.

But, as our Gander Mountain ages, they seem to get fewer and fewer of firearms that are not in the mainstream. I am sure some accountant has seen the slow inventory turns of those items and has deleted those items from inventory.

Finally, our local Gander Mountain has a Smith Model 14 that i would like to buy, but are they proud of it. It is priced about 15% higher than the excellent value in all the gun values books.

I was talking to a buddy today about GM. I mentioned I had found some cheap ammo there, and that others oin this thread had echoed that. Apparently the last one he was in, 100 rnd packs of 5.56 were $45. Across the street at Dunhams, same brand, same box of 100 rnds was $30.

I've bought two guns from Gander, didn't feel I over paid for what I got, and they have a decent selection of used. I may have just been lucky, because I haven't found a decent deal at GM since.

speaking of ammo...

Saw some people also mention ammo prices. I saw a 100 round WWB of .40S&W for $45!! That is insane. It costs around $30 at Wal-Mart. Academy doesn't even charge that much for ammo.

I went to a GM last year in PA looking for an FNP 45, just to take a look at my first .45 option. The clerk said they didn't have any and asked if I wanted an FNX? No, considering there are no FNX 45's. After we established that he quoted me a price. $900. That's almost twice as much as the pistol costs. Haven't been back since

We have a local proprietor who will remain unnamed who had to put a limit on the number of case ammo a person could purchase, because the GM staff from across I-35 were coming in and buying it at their sale price and marking it up at GM. What a shame.

Apparently the firearms instructors at the new GM range are all ex spec ops also. Geez.

Prices for just about everything are though the roof, though right now they have some fair deals for hunting season on package rifle deals. I've not bought any ammunition form them in over a year. My personal one here in Green Bay is.. shall we say betting on the uninformed for purchasing these days.
Plinking FMJ ammunition is higher there than anywhere else, LGS's included. Self Defense ammunition? Forget it. Double the price anywhere else. I've not bought anything fire arms related in two years now, having purchased several firearms though this location though the years. Used prices used to be much more fair in this area's GM but not any longer. And I've purchased more fire arms though this GM than anywhere else, combined at this point. Their prices have skyrocketed in most cases since 2006. Then I had a friend of mine that worked there part time and he flat out said that MSRP is the starting point and it goes up in most cases. They are to push firearms out to the uniformed, however if someone asks for a better deal they typically could get it if they knew what they were talking about, and could demonstrate that. I've asked on firearms, used especially for markdowns, but I knew the clerk well that was behind the counter. I purchase some things like hunting stands and the like from them, Sheels and other big box stores in the area are better priced, with the exception of Dick's.
