The GM up here is not bad at all. The guys behind the gun counter remember my name and let me grab my own handgun ammo. Customer service has alwase been first rate, and thier fishing section seems to eat my paychecks in the summer.

There's two where I live, each within a 30-minute drive. They have a great selection of long guns and handguns, very respectful, very knowledgeable, and quite helpful when I was a newbie to handguns and CCW.

Customer service has always been top notch, and all the employees (even outside of the Firearms Department) are pro-gun (many even have their PA License To Carry).

If it's anything like mine, be excited and grateful.

I have mixed results with dealing with GM.

There are 2 within an hour of my house- one is 5 miles away.

Their selection is pretty good, The prices on guns seem to be in line with other gun shops in the area. The quality of the staff varies greatly. I actually go to one store for advice and purchasing higher end fishing reels and rods, while I go to a different store for firearms related stuff. I've heard a lot fo strange things from the guys behind the gun counter nonetheless.

They have racks and racks full of used long guns, though I haven't seen anything that was a bargain yet, including a shot out Romanian M44 with a tag describing it as "Russian service rifle, $299"

They are a quick stop place to buy reloading components and gadgets though at somewhat inflated prices. If you are looking for dies in anything other than the most popular cartridges, you won't find them here. About the only thing I buy there is primers an powder.

I had a scope mounted once by GM, they did a good enough job of mounting it, but the $20 bore sighting job they did was only off by about 1' at 25 yards.

I had the serving rewrapped on one of my bows, which came apart after shooting 3 arrows.

I've never bought a gun there, but I've window shopped there extensively to try to find exactly what I want before going to a local gunshop.

Maybe I'm just lucky that Corsicana, TX got the good Gander Mountain... :D

True, they don't stock EBR's or surplus arms. But we have plenty of other places to get those. The rest of their firearm selection is second to none. My father found a Remington 1100 .410 he's been wanting for years for less than $600.

As for service, I've never had a bad experience. And my wife (an avid fisher) and mother (who never bought a gun in her life before getting Dad his .410) were treated superbly by the GM staff.

The only two criticisms I have for our GM is (1) they need more staff in the gun dept. (that's the busiest counter in the store), and (2) they can do a better job cycling out the older publications out of the magazine rack. Some days, you can find a dozen three-month-old copies of SHOOTING TIMES, but nary the just-published new issues. :scrutiny:

I like doing business w/ Gander Mountain. In fact, I may do some more this weekend while the wife's gone... ;)
