A couple of days ago I stopped in a Gander Mountain sporting goods store. First time I can remember that I have been to one. I grabbed a bunch of ammo, and walked over to the gun counter to ask for a price since none of the boxes I was interested in were marked. I guess maybe they were hoping that not having prices marked would just get the customers to bring it to the checkout and then pay up without asking the price first. I say this because holy cow was the price high. Has ammo fgone up in recent months to sky high limits because of the hurricanes or war in Iraq or because of oil price gouging!!! I usually get a box of 20 rounds of .35 Remington for about $14.00 or $15.00, Gander Mountain told me they wanted $21.95 which almost is 1 1/2 times the price. Some of the prices of other things were average but the ammo seemed sky high. What is up with that, is this their usual pricing plicy on ammo? I did not buy the ammo.

I also noted that they had a really poor layout for stock related to hunting and shooting. Things that normally would be next to oneanother on the shelves seemed to be jumbled about in different areas of the hunting/shooting section. Oh well maybe because of all the hunting stuff added at this time of year.

I guess the only thing that really impressed me in a good way was that they sold pistols as well as longarms. Well, one other thing impressed me, the cute check-out girl. She took a good look at the squirrel targets I was purchasing, then gave me a broad smile of approval :) ; I would guess she is a hunter or at least a target shooter.

All the best,
Glenn B

Depends really. Sometimes they have deals, but mostly the prices are higher than the local competitors, at least in Minnesota.

I got a kick out of their radio ad:
"At Gander Mountain, you already know we have the lowest prices..."

***!

It entirely depends on the phase of the moon, and which alternate Thursday it is... :D :neener:

Seriously, like anything else, you have to watch for their ads & sales flyers. When GM has a sale on some caliber/gauge/load I like, I'll buy a bunch.

Several months back, my local GM put the Blazer Brass .45ACP on for $9 a box. I bought 10 boxes, all they had on the shelf, and asked if they had any more in the back.

I've found Gander prices to be pretty reasonable. They'll also match ANY competitor's price: I got my Winchester White Box 9mm there at Wal-mart prices.

Thin Black Line,
My apology for my last post, I have had a really bad day. The post of yours that I critisized was something I should have taken lightly as it was probably meant, again my apology.

Best regards,

I agree with foghornl. Back in july gander had 12ga. trap loads on sale for $3.19 a box. Me and my brother bought 6 cases. It always pays to ask questions and do your homework.

My nephew works at the newly opened GM in North Little Rock, AR.
I go in there and pick out what I want and then on employee night he buys it for me with his discount. The price match is excellent also, I have used internet pricing and they have matched it.

The one knock I have is that they don't carry any of those "evil assault rifles".
