A couple of days ago I stopped in a Gander Mountain sporting goods store. First time I can remember that I have been to one. I grabbed a bunch of ammo, and walked over to the gun counter to ask for a price since none of the boxes I was interested in were marked. I guess maybe they were hoping that not having prices marked would just get the customers to bring it to the checkout and then pay up without asking the price first. I say this because holy cow was the price high. Has ammo fgone up in recent months to sky high limits because of the hurricanes or war in Iraq or because of oil price gouging!!! I usually get a box of 20 rounds of .35 Remington for about $14.00 or $15.00, Gander Mountain told me they wanted $21.95 which almost is 1 1/2 times the price. Some of the prices of other things were average but the ammo seemed sky high. What is up with that, is this their usual pricing plicy on ammo? I did not buy the ammo.
I also noted that they had a really poor layout for stock related to hunting and shooting. Things that normally would be next to oneanother on the shelves seemed to be jumbled about in different areas of the hunting/shooting section. Oh well maybe because of all the hunting stuff added at this time of year.
I guess the only thing that really impressed me in a good way was that they sold pistols as well as longarms. Well, one other thing impressed me, the cute check-out girl. She took a good look at the squirrel targets I was purchasing, then gave me a broad smile of approval ; I would guess she is a hunter or at least a target shooter.
All the best,
Glenn B
