Went to gander mountain last night they have reloading components 20% off.

Brass did not look at prices
Primers 20% off 3.49 per 100 of WSP bad deal
Powders they had unique 20% off 64.99 5Lbs good deal
Bullets hornady xtp 20% off of 21.99 seems ok

This after they jacked the prices up 45%. I got in on the powder and primers.

Got 2# of titegroup
2000 Rem 7.5
2000 rem 2.5

I heard a good quote on here about why they call it "Gander Mountain". You come in, take a gander, and leave.

I don't understand why their prices are so high...

I'd be happy iF their website showed the actual prices, its an 1 hr drive for
me. Guess I could call them when I'm not at work lol

The GM I've been to around here has the highest prices for reloading supplies that I've ever seen. I think that even at 20% off, their merchandise will still be priced much higher than Sporstmans Warehouse.

Its been a long time since I have seen good deals at GM. SW by me has pretty good prices on reloading stuff. I would have to order a whole bunch from a mailorder place to beat their prices.

The local Gander has rediculous prices- I stopped in there last week to satify my curiosity on why I haven't been there in over a year. My curiosity was satisfied when I saw:

-Hornady bullets starting at $25/box
-Primers starting at $3.50/100
-Brass in common winchester cartridges (308, 270, 30-06) $28/50
-RCBS die sets starting at $40
-Sierra match kings ranging from $25 (for .224) to $39 (for .308)
Ammunition prices were rediculous as well:
Standard Remington corelokt loads ranging from $23 (30-30) to $40+(25-06)
Wolf 7.62x39 for $5/box

I didn't even bother looking at their powder prices.

basspro

Basspros not any better,IN fact, they have very little in reloadig,I asked why, they said,,oh someone said we're getting out of the reloading business, they had maybe 10 dif type of powder, and most of the primmer racks were empty, very little in bullets,i did how ever find some IMR 4198,at 25 bucks a pound,,They have no case lube,no presses,i did see some dies,

I happened to be up near the GM store in Orlando FL and dropped in while I was there. As far as primers, they had 300 small rifle primers, a bunch of shotshell primers, and that was it. Disappointing since I went in to get a brick or two of some LP primers. So-so prices on their powders, which I didn't need anyway. I ended up not getting anything, such a shame to waste a trip up to that part of town.

As far as I'm concered, I'm going to get all my powder/primers from Powder Valley. I had a good experience with them, and so long as one makes a big enough buy to spread the hazmat and shipping fee over, you'll come out ahead since their item prices are so good.

I use our local GM in a pinch once or twice a year for the stuff i forgot to get thru cabelas. Yes, i agree thier prices are retail plus...BUT I have found closeout/clearance stuff at very good prices. For a month or two last summer i was buying a box of 90 clay pigeons for $5.95 at Gander Mt. I saw when i was in there a couple weeks ago, there back up to $9.95 or 11.95 i cant remember. Another thing i look at is thier Mens clothing clearance racks, I can usually find something i dont need yet buy ,lol, off of those. Reloading stuff is overpriced. Hornady 165 btsp's which i buy for 21.95 at numerous other places were priced 29.95 at GM.

GM, Bass Pro, Cabales are making more money off of factory ammo so why selling stuff that is going to lose you money?

That is the way I see it. Shoot I will not even look at nosler bullets in my Gander. The last time I did I about had a heart atack. a box of 50 224 50gr CTBT were $49.95 That is $1 per bullet.

For primers and sometimes powder, Gander is okay (if my local place doesnt want to give me a BS story about how 5 dollars a primer pack is natural inclination of prices) b/c I dont reload with a ferocity for me to warrant the 20$ Hazmat fee from an internet site. I get my bullets from online tho...

Purchased a Mod 17 S&W .22lr and a Mod 624.44 sp. in Mint condition last year in the middle 200's. This year they have a few 4" S&W .357 revolvers and they want mid 300's, I'll say they have increased their prices!

The Cabelas near me isn't too bad on prices for relaoding equipment components always seem to be a dollar or two higher than other places. The Sportsman's Warehouse that that was near me was just the opposite- overpriced reloading equipment, and almost reasonably priced components- though it only seemed like they kept 1lb of each powder, 1 box of each type of primer, and 1 box of each bullet in stock at any given time.

There's almost nothing worth buying from Gander Mountain even with the 20% discount.

The GM near me is charging for:
Remington Primers = $32.95/K
CCI & Winchester Primers = $29.99/K
Most rifle powders are between $24.95 and $29.95
most pistol powders are between $20.95 and $24.95

Their Sierra rifle bullets are $32.99/100
Hornady rifle bullets are $29.95/100

I can go on all night but I'm sure I have already made my point!!!

Was in the Knoxville store yesterday looking around and there was an 8lb jug of IMR (don't remember the number) for $200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am waiting for the going out of business sale at GM. That is the only time I would buy from them. Who is running this company anyway? Call me crazy but I would rather make hundreds or thousands of 10% profits an month than a dozen 30%+ markups. This is what is going on at GM

They do it because they can. There are too many people out there with more money than brains anymore.

The best one yet I seen in my gander was when Winchester said we are closing shop. I seen a Model 94 in 30-30 NEW model for are you ready $1799. yes folks that was $1799. The one guy said shoot we have had 15 of them sold at that price in a matter of 3 days. I just shook my head and walked out.

I agree and will add a reason. So many stores like Kmart and Wal-Mart are no longer selling guns and ammo there is very little competition to keep GM honest.

There is a rumor going around that a Bass Pro Shop will be opening new me soon. I'm betting GM will either have to drop their prices considerable or close their doors. Then like "cornman" said, I'll buy during their Going Out of Business Sale!!

my theroy on this is their prices have to be high. look at the overhead in these stores! holy kawabunga dude! same with cabellas and bass pro shops stores. somebody has to pay for all that atmosphere! they figure as long as your there, you will buy something, even if the prices are steep. your there, so is what you want, unless the price is horrificly high, you will probbaly leave with it. that's why mail order has such a niche, ugly wharehouse overhead, buy in large volume for a price break, and sell at a lower price than major high end stores = many happy customers. the only thing that is strarting to show up now is the high shipping costs . but as long as people can save $ mail ordering, they will be fine.
