I guess for some strange reason Gander Mountian Isn't sell so many of the police trade in Sig 225s. They have reduced them to $349 bucks! I bought one when they were $399, and they are outstanding.

So check out your nearest Gander Mountian.

Oh, and they have CZ 82, 9x18s for $250.

I would love to get one, but called around and..... (rant on)good old Maryland, there is a gander mountain out of state 15 min away(has 3 in stock), no "ballistic fingerprint" shell case included, no sales to MD/ no MD transfer, the closest in state is 3 hours away, has 1, and I would have to drive back there 10 days from now to pick it up:banghead:, I seem to recall a rather important document saying something in reguards to "shall not be infringed", well good to know that it doesn't apply here. (rant off)

Are these the one's marked P6? I found one at the gun show yesterday for $480, which I thought was a little steep. The guy's other stuff was reasonable, though.

It is not like I need another SIG, though. Glad I passed, maybe I can pick one up cheaper later.

Yes it's the P6. When I went to Gander I found one with little wear on the outside, then I dissassembled it, finding NO wear on the insides. Gun comes with box, papers, spare mag, and holster like Barny Fife would use (yes it is swiveled!)

It shot dead on and didn't jam, period. And I still have it as well as my 239 Sig! Shoots like a rifle.

Just have them trot out all the P6s, and pick the best one of the litter.

Oh, and you can put it on lay-away (for those who can't afford it right now. I did just that getting my P6.)

Got em' in Greensboro NC for $319!!!!!!!!!!

the gander in greensboro has them on sale for about a week left i think for 319 and will let you hand pick the one you want.

Sorry Revolverman, but that's a mite far for us Texicans to drive....

Still that is one heck of a price! While I'm a Glockphile, I still appreciate the excellent Sig line. If it was $319 here, I'd buy a second one just cause of that price. For belive me, a 9 shot 9mm is fine for SD. Especially with the accuracy a Sig delivers.

Gun Fund? now theres an idea Ala Dan!
Whats with the 225's anyways? Were they service pistols in europe or something? all i know about this particular model is that they're inexpensive relatively.

Not trying to hijack the thread...

Since a cop at church told me he thinks I should SERIOUSLY (as in, this past Sunday, "Have you found a class yet?") consider getting a CCL, I've been window shopping for a new pistol to fit that need. Currently I have a Ruger GP161 (not too practical for concealed carry) and a Taurus PT92. I shoot the Taurus very well, but since I really don't have the dough to outright buy another gun, I'm pondering taking a trip to Gander Mountain to check out the 225 and maybe trading in the 92 for one of thes SIGS if I can find one at this price. My Taurus has never failed me at the range. I understand SIGS are hosses, as we say in Texas, so I believe I would be getting a quality firearm in trade. Much better than the SIGMA I've been toying with.

Would the P225 be a wise choice, even with the smaller SIG mag capacity? The Sig would shave over 1/2 pound, an inch length, half inch of width, and a bit of heigth off the Taurus. What value can I expect out of my 92 - $200? $150?

Thanks,
Quoheleth

Quoheleth,

It would be a VERY wise choice. And instead of trading, how about lay-away? Keep the 92 as your house gun and pack the Sig. Since you see that a Taurus might bring little in trade, just keep it and plunk down 75 bucks and pay if off in 3 months.

Nine rounds and a spare mag is pleny for CCW. Many people carry 5 shot .38s, so why wouldn't a 9 shot 9mm do fine? Just use DPX 9mm and you will be well armed.

Make sure you get a hand selection and pick the best they have. It takes appart somewhat like your Taurus and once you take it appart look for wear on the slide rails (mine had NONE!!)

For holsters any IWB soft one made for the 239 ought to work. I bet Blade tech or Sidearmor makes a 225 holster. FIST makes holsters for the 225 for sure, DeSantius makes the 'Scorpion' IWB for it. Looks like Galco dosn't make a 225 holster. Gould&Gouldrich does make 225 holsters! Comp-tac makes GOOD Sig 225 holster, the Pro Undercover.

Anyway there are many holster makers making Sig 225 holsters!

Picked one yesterday. Its in great shape. A little holster wear on the top. Bore looks good, little crud in the chamber, that needs to be cleaned out. Got a Manual with it, in german of course. Since my german is a little rusty, i downloaded the english one from the Sig web sight.

I have smaller hands, so i really like the feel of the gun.

I popped in the Harrisburg Gander Mountain on my way home from the gun show today. They are still selling the same worn out looking guns they were selling last winter, for the same price. I did see a couple of real nice ones at the show today though for right around $400. They would have been well worth the extra $50.

225's are awsome guns, but the few trade-in guns I've seen look abit banged up. I would rather pay a little more and get one in nice shape. Then again, if our local dealers would sell them for 325-350, I may just change my tune.

What's with the cut in the hammer of those 225's anyway?

cut in hammer

I wont swear to it but I vageuly remember hearing that the cut in tthe hammer wa so you could tell if it was dropped on the end because it could do damage to the firing pi mechanism. The cut would close up the gap if it had ben dropped with enough force to damage the mechanism.....i beleive thats what I heard.

Do be careful. I've seen one at GM that was the older 225 with the heal clip for a magazine release. Even though the mag had the cuts for the button release the 225 was and older type. Thankfully mine used the button release.

As for the cut in the spur of the hammer, I have no idea.

The gander Mtm I got mine from, also had one with the Heal realease and was in worse shape than the two button realase one i looked at.

Do the regular P225 have the hammer cutout, or was this special for the german police? Also when was the order for these gun orginally made? Mine say made in West germany.

Also the holister i got with the gun, had someone name written on it. maybe i could look him and tell him thanks for the gun.

IME, it pays to be patient and shop around for a P6, due to the wide range of condition. The local gunshop has had four P6's. The first two had considerable holster wear, the third only minor wear (and was the best buy), the fourth almost no wear at all (not counting the ugly import mark). The first three were Grade 2. The fourth was Grade 1 and cost about $40 more. The extra cost was worthwhile for someone interested in appearance, although functionality was probably the same.
