I am considering getting a Gander Mountain credit card. After this next election guns may be hard to find. I want to add one to my collection now.

Have you obtained a Gander card recently? What were your experiences? I understand that they have a really high interest rate.

Thanks in advance.

I was planning on getting a Gander Mountain card, but it is not for the guns or ammo. They have great camping and fishing stuff. It is unusual to find a good deal on guns at G.M.

My credit score is not an issue. No problems in that area. Most of the guns at my local Gander Mtn. are very overpriced. However, there is an Academy Sports store across the freeway. Because of the nearby competition prices on certain firearms are competitive.

I have a Cabela's cad. No idea what the interest is because I pay it off every month. I put EVERY purchase I can on it, and it adds up pretty quickly. I've had it almost 3 years and have got a couple thousand bucks worth of stuff.

I've got one and use it quite a bit.

Pro's:

$25 coupons that you can use to buy gun related "stuff". (I use mine primarily for powder/primers, etc.)
I don't feel guilty about my shooting habits because I'm just using "points" to buy guns, scopes, powder, primers, etc.

Cons:

Gander's prices for alot of gun related stuff is higher than it should be.
Their website SUCKS if you like to use quicken and have it pull down your transactions.

I used to travel alot for work so it worked out well in that I used Gander's card for work expenses and it added up fast. (2k a week when I was on the road equaled about $75 a month in gander bucks)

The main reason I got their card was that I was looking for a Leupod 4.5-14 VXIII scope and Gander had them as cheap as anywhere I could find on the internet. I was ready to plunk down my cash and they offered me 10% off if I signed up . . .what was a good deal became a screaming deal. (I think I paid $430 OTD)

FWIW.

Great feedback

dmftoy1,

Thanks for the pro's and con's list. My reason for getting the card would be the 5% off of the purchase price of a new firearm. All other items are ten percent off the first purchase.

i got one to buy a rifle, I got it because the rifle was on sale , got additional 5% off and and gu purchase was interest free. I went ahead and paid it off after 2 months and have cancelled the card

The Gander Mountain and Cabela's cards are good if you spend lots of money at those stores, since you get the 5% back. If you don't, you can do better than the 1% everywhere else. Also, if you are making a really big purchase, the 10% of the first purchase can be worth it. Otherwise, they are usually better options. You might want to check out some of these.

Credit cards are evil.
Credit cards are evil in the same way guns are evil. In the hands someone who doesn't know what they are doing, they can make quite a mess. For those who understand how to handle them, they are a handy tool.

Either way, this thread would most likely be better suited for APS, since it isn't really gun related.

Very gun related

As I stated in the original post, I would use the Gander credit card to add a new firearm to my collection.

I struggle with the purchase of every firearm. Funds are limited. How to pay for each new gun is huge part of the equation.

Yes, it is gun related.
