I walked in to Gander Mountain today to price-check their range ammo and look around for a holster for my Hk USP9c.

I brought it in in its hard case, had it cleared, and zip-tied. I was in the firearms section BS'ing withe clerk (overall nice guy, understood his store had outrageous prices)

We get on the subject of open carry in the store, and all that. I ask him if I walked in the store OC'ing if that would be a big deal.

His words:
Clerk: "Thats fine, but make sure its not loaded."
Me: "But doesn't that defeat the purpose?"
Clerk: "My advice, just stick the magazine in your back pocket, and make sure the barrel is clear."
Me: "Why is that?"
Clerk: "If you step in this section with a loaded gun(points to the firearms section and lowers his voice to conspiratorial tone) alarms will go off."
Me: "Alarms?"
Clerk: "Yeah (still whispering), they spent bookoo [sic] bucks on it. If you have a loaded gun on you alarms are going to go off."
Me: ...
"Damn, thats interesting. Thanks for the heads up. You take it easy, ok? Thanks for all the help.":banghead::banghead::banghead:

I paid for my holster and left...wondering how much the tinfoil at Wal-Mart is so I can make a hat for this guy. :uhoh:

Seriously...when did this miraculous invention appear? Is it online along with the mind-control devices and force fields?

:scrutiny:

You know, retail is kinda boring a lot of the time.

Maybe because of that, there is a game folks in retail sometimes play. It's called: Who can tell the weirdest story to a rube customer and get away with it?

Winner gets free lunch from the others...and they all laugh like loons.

This guy earned that lunch for sure. Loaded gun sensor, I don't think legally allowed to xray you with that much energy without telling you.

You mean the one over there on Skibo road that I carried my P345 in a few months back??

Or did you mean the one in Greensboro that I carried my SP101 and LCP in last week?? :D

When the alarms went off the other evening, I thought I won the jackpot! I kept waiting for coins to fall out of the register.

Um... yeah, this is BS.

Neato torpedo...

And I guess all these ex-Wally World employees have that new airport "see-thru" tech that allows uncensored views of what people look like under their clothes too?
I wondered what Gander was spending all those profits on...

My take on it...

A new employee who was baggin' groceries down at the local Piggly Wiggly a week ago, and the old hands decided to have a little fun with him. Just a new twist on the old Muffler bearing/Widget wrench routine.

Yeah the Piggly Wiggly folks told him to use a shelf stretcher to get that Campbell's Soup display set up.
When he could not find the Shelf Stretcher, PW employees said Gander must
have borrowed it.

Next week this guy will working at Target...because Gander will tell him Target borrowed the Shelf Stretcher....

xray you with that much energy without telling you.

Regardless of the amount of X-Rays that was utilized it would be an EXTREMELY difficult to tell if a gun had a round in the chamber ( I would say impossible except there are a lot if interesting imaging techniques and I know I do not know all of them ;) ) in the scenario outlined above.

My first post

Funny! Our Gander Mtn has a sign as you walk in the door. It says something to this effect: If carrying guns to the gunsmith, please check in at the service counter, guns must be cleared and tagged. Does not apply to concealed carry.

After you go through all the BS of checking your gun(s), the clerk at the service desk thens hails over the stores PA system for an escort. When they escort arrives, they hand you back your firearms and you are then escorted back to the gunsmith.

Then after you conduct your business, whether it be walk out with your guns or you buy a new gun, you are escorted back to the front door, handed your guns and off you go.

Just kinda wondered about that process.

You should go back and have some fun with him...

CC into the store with a loaded gun. Engage the clerk in a conversation about the new loaded gun sensors. Let him swallow the hook. Let him tell you how they work and how reliable they are, and how much money they spent on them. Really play the fool and act like you're buying his whole spiel. Then when the perfect moment presents itself, pull out your gun and clear it right in front of him. Tell him that they might want to get their system checked as it doesn't seem to be working.

Make sure you have a camera because the look on his face will be priceless and you'll have to post that pic here for all of us to see. :D

If you somehow get arrested as a result of this prank, let us know and we'll kick in a few bucks for your defense.

I always take what I hear from Gander Mountain with a grain of salt. The one down here is friendly but nutty. Last time I was there I was looking for some reloading components and struck up some friendly BS with the employee who was helping me find the powders I wanted. He even gave me a GM $10 gift card that he had a small stack of. And then he proceeded to tell me how I should get rid of my AR15 because "the government is about to outlaw .223 for everyone except military and police". He was 'super serial' like algore in the southpark episode about manbearpig. Swore that 'corporate' had told him this was coming down the pike and he was just giving me a friendly, insider's head's up.

I too left thinking I should make that guy a tinfoil hat.

So if the loaded magazine is in the gun it will detect it, but not if the magazine is in a pocket?
