I went through a lot of BS trying to get a Marlin 60 .22 rifle to shoot well. Today it occurred to me that it might be nice to try something else. I checked to see if a nearby store, Gander Outdoors (sorry) sold the Savage A22. I bought my Marlin at Gander in March, and I also bought a .22 pistol there this year.

Guess what the website says? They now sell a grand total of 6 rimfire rifles! That includes all rimfire calibers. The Marlin 60 is gone, and they don't sell Ruger 10/22's or Savage A22's.

I looked at their rimfire pistol selection, and it has been cut back, too.

I am wondering if our best buddy Mr. Lemonis is up to something new, or if Gander is simply in the process of disappearing again. Has anyone heard anything?

Imagine a gun store that doesn't sell the 10/22. Crazy.

I tried to see if Wal-Mart had anything, but the only gun listed on their site is the Remington 700.

I don't want to go to Dick's, and Bass Pro is a long drive.

I work at a Walmart, and our store is adding more guns to the display, so don't take what the websites say as what's happening in the individual stores. I suspect it's the same for Cabela's. The guns shown on walmart.com have always been merely a representation (a poor one at that) of what's in the stores.

maybe their website is not up to date. that is not an unusual situation.

or maybe their finances are such that they just can't carry that much inventory.

I don't get Walmart. When you look at their website, it's almost as if firearms don't exist. Even ammunition is hard to locate.

I see why they're scared of Amazon. You would think they would step up their game.

Google's cache shows the A22 selling for $209. That's $24 below Bud's, with no FFL fee. I do hope the website is wrong.

I think they must use a different inventory system to track firearms and ammunition. The rest of their merchandise is very easy to find. The app will even tell you what aisle the merchandise is in at your local store.

I suspect Amazon is as scared of them as they are of Amazon. It should be interesting to see how it plays out. Especially now that you can do your grocery shopping online at Walmart.com and just stop by the front door to have it put in your car for you. Or you can have it shipped free to your house (if over $35). Walmart is not stupid. They understand full well the threat Amazon is to Walmart. But I also think Amazon is very aware of the threat that Walmart poses to Amazon as well.

Walmart is currently selling a Savage semiautomatic .22 for $99 at all the stores in my area. Not sure the model though.

I agree with the above, some businesses don't advertise gun sales online. I think it has something to do with individual store FFLs and department managers picking stock for individual stores.

Some Walmarts don't sell guns. There are 3 near me and only 1 sells guns. They all carry ammo but not very much in the store's that don't sell guns. Does anyone have any knowledge as to what Academy Sports has gun wise? I try to do all my gun buying from the LGS if I can even if it's a few bucks more.

Walmart does not sell guns or ammo online, so (this is speculation on my part, based on 13 years at Walmart) why would they put it in the online store? They do show a few models, but usually tucked in there somewhere is "In Store Only". I agree they should show more, but the store's inventories are set by local demographics, and an online store can't do that. Also, you can go into any Walmart and ask the Sporting Goods manager to special order anything in the catalog they should have by their register. This is the closest they can do to "Site to Store" with guns. The catalog they have is more extensive than what they have in the stores, and way more than they have on line.

You'll have to find a store near you that stocks them. (Or go in and order from the catalog, as I just mentioned.) If the price in the rack is different than WM's online price, they will honor the online price. (should be the same, though.)

Yes, Walmart is competing with Amazon, and yes, both are aware of the competition. (I am waiting for "Walmart Prime" and the attendant wifi service; VUDU is OK, but not the same as Amazon Prime) The winners are all of us.

The advantage of putting the guns online is that it tells me whether I should get off the couch and go buy one. I hate calling stores and sitting on hold forever while they try to find someone to talk to me.

I haven't checked in quite a while but Walmart had a catalog at the gun counter with the different guns, not stocked in store, they could order for a customer.

When I first went into the local Gander Mountain, the gun prices were so ridiculously high, I never bothered to go back. That was ten or fifteen years ago.
they were crazy high here too. i did buy a 9mm mauser pistol there once.

It was a couple weeks ago I was in a Gander Outdoors and they had many rimfires, including 10/22s chargers, various hand guns, couple golden boys and numerous bolts.

Prices are competitive as well since the changeover.

While I was not happy learning about the owners comments, I'd rather have the business (and jobs) locally vs having a boarded up building instead.

They must be screwing with the website. I just picked up an A22 for $209. Somewhere Lemonis is cackling

While I was there, the lady who waited on me was able to find the A22 on the website, but it's not there now. The .22 Magnum version is popping up, though.

I look forward to seeing what this thing can do. The Marlin 60 is a very appealing gun, but I had to put $250 in one just to get it to work. The A22 comes with a better magazine, an Accu-trigger, sling studs, and a milled receiver.

I would not enter a Gander Outdoors (Lemonis) store if they called me and told me they wanted to give me a free firearm. I am old enough and have enough character to honor that statement.

Back in the early days of GM, I was able to get a good deal on a used shotgun and a Security Six. The last time I was there, about 4 years ago, their new and used gun prices were so high, I walked out and never came back. Even our local Cabelas had better prices.

Our Walmarts do not carry firearms of any flavor.

The walmart I go to does not have guns, but does have a decent ammo cabinet these days. I think there is at least one walmart around here that does have guns. I forget which one. Might be in beloit, WI.

Went to Gander Outdoor website and they show both the Marlin Model 60 AND the Ruger 10/22. They also show a few .22LR handguns.

I get the feeling that Gander is having a hard time getting back on its feet. It appears that the site is still not quite right.

I got a 20% off code via email, and I had been wanting to invest in a bucket of Golden Bullets for pistol practice, so off to Gander I went. I put three items in my cart and tried to use the code. No joy. I tried reloading and whatever and got nowhere. I clicked the live chat button, and it said customer service was offline.

I called their land line, and the lady who answered told me the code was rejected because the bullets were excluded. There was no indication of this on the website, so I had no way to know what the issue was.

She straightened it out, gave me the discount anyway, and sent my goods on their way with free shipping.

I am having a hard time staying mad at Lemonis.
