Just noticed that my unfired NIB Taurus Tracker has a slight gap between the bottom of the barrel and the frame? Is this normal? Something to be concerned about? Should I send it back to the factory?
The short answer is no - nothing can be done with this gap short of re-fitting the barrel to frame. Usualy the gap is caused by the polishing process on the frame. (perhaps over-polishing) It causes no harm, so in a manner of speaking it is not a defect - simply a fit & finish issue.
Before they went to 2-piece barrels S&W did the same on those revolvers that had a full underlug. Otherwise the barrel can bear on the underlug, rather then the barrel’s shoulder. Back when labor costs weren’t an issue the underlug’s were closely fitted to the frame. Now-a-day’s they don’t do it that way no mo’...
