Update & follow-up

Anyone know...does the CMP cash a check immediately upon receipt of the order or do they wait until the order is filled?

TSRA card came last Wednesday. Got the app filled out. Gotta dig up my birth certificate today. Will go to the bank tomorrow to get the notary's signature (she's out today, but it's a free service at the bank) and mail it off.

All things being equal - including they don't run out between now and then - I should have a Garand within 120 days of tomorrow.

Checks are deposited upon receipt. If you don't want your money tied up for 4 months you could use a credit card...they don't hit that until the order is filled.

Glad you're going through the process...despite the wait, you won't be disappointed!

Just to give you something to think about here are pics of my service grade SA that I got in July. (ordered in Feb)

Those first two spam cans didn't last very long. ;)

Very nice, CZguy. How 'bout that park!

Good suggestion about the CMP forum. Guys there (like here :)) will not dump on you for asking questions.

On my app, I am requesting a Service Grade at the listed price of $595. If, however, SG's are out at that price, I'm asking to sub a field grade at $495 (not the $695 one!) and add an extra spam can of ammo to the ticket.

We'll see what happens.

I've gotta hurry and get this off. Wife & I were painting the kids bedroom this afternoon. Moved a bookcase and have mold in the carpet :barf: where it is damp. Means I probably have a cracked slab (was leveled 10 years ago) or a torn liner under the slab (or both). Carpet guy said we can seal the concrete and then re-carpet. Cost: darn near one Garand. :cuss:

Per bedroom. (2 rooms) Double :cuss:

Hmmmm...how much is Benadryl? Oldest will be going off to college in another 6 years...she can live with athsma and bronchial problems 'til then, right guys? :p

Gotta go finish...getting a latex paint headache, myself. :(

Get what makes you happy--the Garand. They're not exactly common, at any rate.

Plus, your other stuff you can get together piecemeal as needed ($150 here, $75 there).....the Garand is a big ol' lump sum. Spend it while you've got the gumption to do so.

Here's the best reason to get a Garand now. This is a pic of a Springfield 03A3 that I got ten years or so ago.......CMP is out now.

I voted - get the Garand as well. They ain't making anymore of them you know.... The ones that are left will only increase in value. The time is probally now or never if you ever really wanted to get a Garand at a reasonable price.

Petty little pistol parts will availble anytime and you can buy them $25-$100 at a time until you have everything you want.

(This poem, a THR favorite, comes to mind to answer your question)

Every Man Should Have A Rifle

So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions "over yonder" of the war I know must come.
In the corner - not a vision - but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land,
Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.

No - no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss -
In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us!
Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that is to be,
We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea.
While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war,
Every man should own a rifle and have cartridges in store!

~ by Henry Lawson, 1907 ~

Some things can't wait. An M-1 is one of those things.
