I've seen plenty of recommendations for 30-06 Garand handloads. For powder choices, IRM 4895 and 4064 are the best. My questions is, due to the short barrel of the tanker conversions, would one of these or another powered be preferable? Using 147 and 150 grain bullets.

More importantly, which powder will give a massive fireball like the one in the below video!

Whatever powders are recommended for a standard M1 Garand would also be the correct powders to use in a short barrel tanker conversion.
One has to assume whoever built it was smart enough to tune the gas port size for standard M1 loads, hopefully.

I never quite understood the fascination with huge fireballs & horrendous muzzle blast though.

I am more interested in retaining whatever good shooting skills I still have left, without developing a terminal flinch at this late date in my life!

1. That Mini-G in the link above has a 16-inch barrel, compared to the 18ish inches of the typical "tanker" garands.
2. Commercial firms have built "tankers" in both .30-06 and .308 caliber; make sure you're comparing apples to apples

3. I just shoot standard Greek M2 ball and Lake City surplus through mine (.30-06 obviously). I haven't noticed any flash.
