I am getting ready to assemble my first AR. I bought my stripped lower today, I got an Anderson Manufacturing lower from a local shop for $85 OTD. I really like that it is made here in KY.

I am planning on adding the LPK from Palmetto State with the Gissele SSA trigger in it. I am also planning on going with FDE furniture and an 18" mid length upper from JSE whenever they get back in stock.

It will probably be a few months before I get everything together, but I am very excited about assembling my AR. I have a DPMS Oracle currently but I am wanting to step up a bit on this one.

I just bought an Armalite stripped lower. Waiting for the Daniel Defense uppers to come back in stock.

I am STUCK building my first AR because none of the manufacturers I want to use have their parts in stock.

This is my first AR, and it will have BCM parts. But, this will be the last AR I build with BCM. Their stuff is great, but it does me NO GOOD if it's not in stock.

Most parts at Midway are out of stock, many parts at Brownells are out of stock, most parts at Palmetto State Armory are out of stock.

Everyone is having stocking problems it seems.

So do you have the two special tools you need?

The upper clamp/block and an armorers wrench/tool?

There are two versions of upper tools. One is a clam shell type clamp, the other is a delrin block that you pin the upper to. Pins on just like the block was a lower. That is the one I used and it is very handy. You need a pretty good sized vice to hold the delrin block.

The other is the armorers tool. Sort of a multi function wrench with some special tooling for mounting your barrel. I picked up a DPMS armorers tool for $30 at the gun show.

And a torque wrench is needed but that is something you can use without building your next AR!

I also had a set of drift pins and a small brass hammer but the one thing that probably saved me the most grief was a clamping hemostat. I was able to grab the pins that needed to be put in and focus on getting the pins in instead of where they might fly trying to hold them any other way!

Once I had all my parts ready to go and the tools in place it only took an hour to assemble the whole thing!

I have one of the Hammerhead wrenches that someone posted on here the other day. As far as the other upper clamp/block I think I am going to buy an already built upper and just assemble my lower. Assembling an upper seems a little more involved than assembling a lower.

A have punches and a hammer so I think I am good to go on tools for the lower.

Got my lower all put together this weekend.

Here are the specs:

Anderson Mfg stripped lower
Geissele SSA trigger group
Ergo Deluxe Tactical FDE Grip
Magpul MOE FDE trigger guard
GG&G single point sling end plate
Buffer tube (mil-spec) and all other small parts are Palmetto State Armory

I have a Vltor Emod on the way as well.

Sorry for crappy cell phone pic. For some reason my digital camera and pc are not on speaking terms.

Love it! What exactly do the markings on your lower say? Can't read it.

It just says Andersn Mfg. Hebron, KY AM-15 Cal .223/5.56 and the SN.

I am going to remove the paint on the roll marks it did not turn out as clean as I was hoping.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't got to the range yet but hope to start breaking it in real soon.

Looks great! You did the right thing on waiting for a quality parts to become available rather settling for less for instant gratification. Well done.

Paint is a PITA to use. I use regular whiteout. Fill in the roll mark let dry then lightly wipe with a,paper towel soaked in Remoil. Comes out awesome and you can take it all off with a toothbrush soaked in Remoil.

Nice Rifle!
