I just picked up a new gen 3 glock 19 and it is ejecting brass straight back over my head and landing on top of my head or on the back of my neck. The rounds that don't go straight back wiz by the right side of my face within inches. Any ideas if this is a known problem and if there is an easy 100 percent fix. I have a 17,26,23,27, and 30 and none of them have this issue. When others shoot it the same thing happens also. Ammo was American eagle and Speer lawman.

There is a lot of discussion over on GT about this very problem. It seems it isn't a problem with G19's made before 2010. Glock will no doubt tell you to send your pistol back but they have also exchanged the Gen 3's for Gen 4's on occassion. The problem is the ejector. They have a new one for the Gen 4 guns and the rumor is that it will work in a Gen 3 too and help the problem. Several weeks ago they weren't admitting to this at Glock but folks on the web said they tried it and it worked. The new ejector is for the gen 4 design and they may not sell one for a known Gen 3 gun. Call Fred in technical service at Glock and discuss the problem with him.

I sent my gen 3 19 back to Glock (it's back for the second time). Apparentely the fix is a new ejector # 30274. If you look at your ejector it is numbered 336. Call Glock and tell them what is going on and put a letter in with your pistol telling them what problems you are experiencing and ask them to upgrade your ejector with a 30274.

Thanks. Oh this is seriously depressing. Unfortunately I decided to buy the Gen 3 because I had heard some bad reports about the ejection on the Gen 4s. Now it sounds like I should have just picked up a used gen 3 or maybe an XD or M&P. I own 6 Glocks because the one thing I have been able to rely on, always, was their inherent reliability. While I can't say that the new Gen 3 I picked up is unreliable (I haven't experienced any malfunctions), it sure is disappointing to have brass flying so close to my face.

OK, I just looked and the number on the ejector is 336.

This is a known problem with recent production Glocks, my Gen3 G27 does it while my Gen3 G23 doesn't.

You should call Glock when you get a chance and speak to one of their representatives in the Warranty Service department. They may tell you that you're limpwristing or shooting weak ammo, but that even if you're not the new ejector should fix it for you. When you ask how you can get the new ejector, they'll tell you to find a local Armorer to order and install the ejector for you. At that point you should ask for a prepaid shipping label to send the gun back to them and have them do it. If they say no, ask to speak to a supervisor or the Warranty Department manager and ask that person for a prepaid shipping label.

Once you get the gun back in Glock's hands, they'll check the fit of the extractor and replace it if necessary. They should also install the new ejector, stamped with the number "30274" for 9mm or "28926" for .40.

Whatever you do, don't pay for shipping yourself. Either insist on a prepaid shipping label or find a local Glock Armorer to install the new ejector and possibly a new extractor for you. Currently no one sells the new ejectors, the only way to get them is to send the gun back to Glock or have an Armorer order and install one for you.

I recently got a hold of a 28926 ejector to test in my Gen3 G27 and I'll be testing it today. Most people report at least better ejection with the new ejector, some people report perfect ejection, an even smaller number have reported no change at all or even worse ejection.

Thanks for the info. I called Glock this morning. They said that I needed to send the pistol back to them and they would send me all the info in an e-mail. I assumed that this meant they would send me a prepaid shipping label. I was wrong. I did get the e-mail in about 2 minutes, but it was just shipping instructions. In this regard I will say my experience with Sig Customer service was about 10x better than my experience with Glock.

So, I brought the gun back to my dealer and he is handling the outgoing shipping. We didn't discuss if I would be charged or not but I'm going to hope that they absorb it. If nothing else having him deal with it is just much more convenient than driving to a UPS Service Center.

The conversation with the Glock rep was interesting. I gave him the number on the ejector and he said there was a new replacement. I asked if this was a 'known' issue and he really wouldn't admit to that.

Wait time right now is 2-4 weeks so I will be without my 19 for a while. If this doesn't work out as it should, with a 100% corrected pistol, I guess I won't be buying any more new Glocks.

Oh also, I was hoping that they could just send me the new ejector but he said no. He told me the reason for this is that they want to test the pistol before returning it to me. We'll see what happens.

I finally got to test my Gen3 G27(NRR prefix) with the 28926 ejector today. I fired 60 rounds total, 20 were 165gr American Eagle and 40 were 180gr American Eagle.

It ejects near perfectly now!

Before with the 1882 ejector and 15 degree non-LCI extractor with non-LCI spring loaded bearing, I'd get scrapes/dents at the case mouth of 99% of the spent casings. About 90% would eject right from 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock, another 10% would eject over my head. With the original straight top "MIM" extractor I'd get about 80% to the right, 10% over my head, and another 10% straight up. The same scrapes/dents appeared at the case mouth of 99% of the spent casings.

Today with the 28926 ejector and non-LCI combo, all ejected to the right between 3 o'clock and 5 o'clock, and there wasn't a single scrape/dent at the case mouth. There were some minor scrapes in the middle of the casing on about 50% of the casings and still a tiny amount of brass dust collecting on the ejection port. But now the gun ejects like it should and I have full confidence in it.

Glock should have emailed you a prepaid Federal express label. If it's a new gun they should pay shipping both ways.

If you guys reload, just wear a sombrero and catch all your brass in it, I dont really see an issue:D

Glad mine works right! Why they gotta "improove" stuff all the time? Glock had a reliable platform, then they had to fix it.

These "OMG my GLOCK isn't perfect" threads make me smile.

I thought we had dodged a bullet figuratively and dodged a hot brass casing literally by sticking to 3rd generation glocks. The virus has spread from the 4th to the 3rd!

Im curious.Im currently considering a glock 23 gen 3.Would these also possibly have the 336 extractor?

It'll have an ejector stamped with the number 1882. You very well may see the ejection problem in a Gen3 G23. My Gen3 G27 had the problem, replacing the extractor and replacing the 1882 ejector with the 28926 ejector fixed it.

Update

Glock shipped my 19 back on friday with the new ejector installed. I put 50 rounds through it and the problem is resolved. In fact it now throws the brass out to the right quite violently :)

I too got my 19 back and have only put 16 rounds thru it, but all brass was ejected to about 4 o'clock, no stovepipes or brass to the face. They put a new ejector 30274 and tossed the 336.

I would not say ejection was violent. Nothing like a mini 14 or 1907 Winny, but all brass made it out of the gun at about 2 feet.

Violent was probably too extreme...just a lot better than it was. I got the same ejector as you.

i have read alot about the #336 ejector giving problems. i have a glock 19 and 34 with the 336 ejector and have fired hundreds of rounds through both with no problems. i did put storm lake barrels in both guns so i could shoot lead bullets. but when i also shoot factory umc ammo in the stock barrels i have no problems either. my guns are almost two years old. i know the 336 ejector can be slightly stoned to correct ejection problems, but i have not experienced a problem with either gun as yet....dave
