Just wanted to share some component comparison shots for you Glock guys. It is nothing special, there are a few positive changes and so far it has been reliable.

Thanks for the pictures.

However, do they change position in the pictures. Is the Gen 3 always on the right/left, top/bottom?

Captions would be great.

JDGray- probably just lighting.

JTQ- pic three confused me as well. lol. gen 3 went from right to left in that one.

I can figure the double recoil spring is the Gen 4 and the removable backstrap is also Gen 4, but I'm not a Glock guy and can't tell one way or the other with the rest of the pictures.

EDIT: OOOOOOOpsss! I just read the thread title all the way through ...for the Glock guys. My bad.

I have added captions. Yes the slide color is different. The Gen 4 is more of a lighter black or dark gray. Slide texture is also smoother on the Gen 4.

JTQ, I own other guns as well and the Glocks are not so bad. I'm certain that if you tried one out the next time you're at the range, you would feel the same.

Thanks for the captions.

I'm sure they are great pistols. I'm sure I'll own one at some time. I'm still in the all steel camp. It doesn't mean I haven't been looking though.

Does anyone know why they went with the dual recoil spring? -And what exactly the difference is in the new barrels and slide finish?

Nice thread, Kilo.

Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Thanks Purgatory, this hobby of mine is more like a sickness...

The dual spring was designed to soften the felt recoil. I believe the barrels are the same. I am not sure why they decided to go with a smoother slide texture, maybe someone will chime in.

Kilo6, is there a real difference between the trigger reach of the Gen3 G19 and the Gen4 without additional backstraps ? The guys in the GT claimed that there is approximately 2 mm difference between the trigger reaches, but no one measured it exactly.

Thanks for the advance.

The reason is to increase spring service life. Many people (cops) were too lazy to replace the recoil spring assembly which caused some minor problems when the pistols were fired 6,000+ rounds without proper maintenance.

I don't like how their marketing calls them "Perfection" when the pistols keep getting revisions.

Soon enough I feel like they are going to re-release the Gen 1 pistols as "Glock Classic" or some such nonsense.

Who knows, SGW, they could come out with a gen 1 or gen 2 classic without the finger grooves and a lot of people would be happy. They don't bother me, but I haven't actually compared it without.

I just bought a brand new gen 3 G19 and I had heard they had new barrels and I'd have to say it does look slightly different. More dark gray than black.

Interestingly, the barrel looks about as much lighter in color as the gen 4 slide does in pics there. I'll try to put pics up of it next to my G36 barrel that looks darker black.

I really wonder what the technical details of the difference are. Did they modify the recipe of metals or change the process of forging the barrels some way or another?

Either way I'm sure it increases longevity and ruggedness of the barrel somehow.

Have a question...I saw the Gen 4 at a gun show. I liked the the Gen 3 slide better and preferred the feel of the grip with the Gen 3 texture. Are there supposed to be advantages to the Gen 4 grip texture or slide color and finish or is it just a "style" preference?

Not really, they're mostly cosmetic changes due to customer demand, the only thing really different is the dual recoil springs which have always been found on sub-compact Glocks, they are still consistent in quality and overall appearance, just slight differences to give the customer options. The one thing most complained about regarding Glock's: Cosmetic appearance, so what's wrong with a little change-up now and then, its not like they threw out the old patent and completely re-designed a new pistol. So...maybe this would be more appropriate: GLOCK: VIRTUAL PERFECTION OVERALL. Who's to say you can't improve on perfection anyway

GLOCK: VIRTUAL PERFECTION OVERALL.

Definitely for the 9mm Glocks which are the most overengineered handguns extant. The only thing I don't like about my generation 3 Glock 19 is that after repeated firing the trigger angle abrades my shooting finger. It's no big deal though cause I bought it to alternate with my Sig p239 as a CCW and not as a target gun.

G36 barrel on bottom. New Gen 3 G19 barrel on top.

Anybody know the details of the changes in the new barrels' and the new slides' appearance? What's the new coating or whatever it is that's goin' on there?

Yeah, my G17 does that to my finger sometimes too, but that's a good thing maybe, if you're finger hurts, you're not shootin enough. That's the way I look at it, same as my guitars, if I put it up for a while and don't play for months on end, when I do finally pick the guitar up to play my fingers kill me. Gotta keep those calluses, callusse's let u know your all tuned up and ready to rock and roll. Hey, that's a pretty good analogy/metaphor(pats on back) and I wasn't even trying.

I had the gen4 G19 in hand a few days ago...very nice. That is, it feels the same too me as the gen3 but I like the "enhancements". Tried to convince my wife to buy it for my birthday this month...got a negative on that :( I'll have to dip in to my personal funds now which means a while to wait.

The biggest difference is in the SF (short frame) treatment of the grip area. This picture shows the difference. It's very subtle, but there.

I think there is a difference on the coating of the steel too. My 19 (gen 3) is darker than my new gen 4 22 and doesn't show smudges as bad. The 22 gets smudged as soon as I touch it and just doesn't seem like it has the same thickness of whatever the coating is on them.

Here, I'm gonna get official with it and quote the company. Quote: "Perfection" stands for our commitment to uncompromising quality, future oriented manufacturing technologies and maximum customer satisfaction, This I gaurantee through our status as a private, independant company.".
I would say they lived up to that claim pretty well
