anybodyelse have one of these? i dug mine out and dusted it off for a (long over due) camping trip. since then, i can't put it down. i'm really impressed with this knife. it's thickness (5/16") gives it sufficient heft for chopping and it's kraton handle makes the work really comfortable.

Now that's a fairly old knife, they were made in the mid-1980's and named to cash in on the success of "Crocodile" Dundee. If memory serves, Gerber was still an independent company at that time an not owned by Fiskars. The knife was, as I recall, designed by Bill Bagwell, which accounts for its slim good looks and light weight compared to other bowies available at the time (Cold Steel Trail Master, Western W49, Case Bowie Knife). The Hypalon handle was standard, they also came with stag scales. Very attractive knives, wish I had purchased one back in the day.

cool man, thanks for the information. i knew it was pre-Fiskars, but the designer Bill Bagwell is some new information also, i never realized the Aussie had been available with stag handles, that's pretty cool.

not long ago there was a guy trying to sell one, over on BF, not very expensive. wasn't me, i'm keeping mine

I have a few different Gerbers, Most are Pre-fiscars and I'm not the Biggest Fan of any Stainless steel, BUT, have a few Multi-tools and a folder or two and I like them as well? I've seen the bowie that your talking about, thought never in Stag, I've seen the Cold Steel Version in Stag and many confuse them? You have a Good one there, keep it sharp and well kept, I'm sure it will give ya years of service?

That is one good looking knife! Sad the big knife makers seem to take one step forward and 2 steps backward the last 25 years! They all ready backed up into the loo IMHO.

I have the black grip model, which I bought back in the day after very short deliberation (cool, unusual? yes: BUY!). True, it is not a beauty, but it is utilitarian and sleek ;-)

I have Rarely unsheathed it, used it on a sapling or two..never needed sharpening, of course ..LOL!

But, it usually goes camping with me, winds up on my belt and just gives me a satisfied feeling of knowing it will split or chop, should a beaver decide to steel my Fiskars axe ;-)

man! that stag handled model is sweeeeeeet yea, i've toyed with the idea of sellin mine, after seeing them go for more than i paid brand new. it's difficult, though, i have a feeling i'd regret parting with it.
