AF6EFC6C-4823-4CD6-92B1-93088CCCF545.png I work for one of these companies—-exactly which one is not important.
I make my pitches at gun shows, gun stores, CCW classes, etc and I am amazed at the outright ignorance that gun owners have of the justice system—-both criminal and civil.
‘If you are ever involved in a use of force situation—deadly or not deadly—-YOU NEED A LAWYER. IN FACT YOU MAY NEED AN ENTIRE LEGAL DEFENSE TEAM.
I don’t care if you are a nun who shot Jason in the Coventry——there will be an investigation.
Which will be a lot more intimidating than the (wrongly) perceived pat on the back and, “Attaboy”
And unless you are a complete idiot you will need a skilled, criminal defense attorney by your side every step of the way.
Which means you have two choices—-get a good defense/insurance plan or go out of pocket.
Out of pocket to the tune of $500-$650 per hour.
‘Please do your research and pick one.

I wonder if there is benefit to "layering" plans where some providers are more robust than others?
It is akin to having a sedan when things need to be locked in a trunk yet a big SUV if driving in snow.
Both vehicles have strengths, weaknesses, advantages, and disadvantages…same with coverage.

Since you are in the business do you have advice on add-ons"
I have the Protector Plan with CCW Safe and am wondering if the 1,000,000 Civil Liability Coverage is worth it? It seems that in some states if you are found not guilty criminally you can still be found guilty in Civil court?
There is a $50 option to bump up bond coverage from 1 mil to 1.5 mil, is it worth it?
How did Kyle Rittenhouse pay? I read he asked for donations and I guess he made money on FOX?
How did Elisjsha Dicken pay?
Thanks for any answers.
Edit - I looked up Rittenhouse and he is being sued in a Civil suit and asked for $110K by the end of Feb. Looks like he got the donations.
While I would never put myself in the position/take the risk Kyle did, it is sobering to see what he is going through.
Has your or any of these insurance companies had a payout?
Are they really insurance companies? Or something else?

CCW SAFE is one of the few companies that offer civil damage compensation.
Yes—it’s worth it.
Most companies will cover your legal fees for a civil suit but not if you lose and have to pay damages.
However—a good shoot is very unlikely to result in a civil judgment but you will still need a lawyer to answer/fight the summons.

Civil lawyers only get paid if they win, so the opposition will try to squeeze you to make a quick settlement even in the most ridiculous of circumstances—as this link shows. ( This BS suit was eventually tossed by a judge)

Having a free lawyer makes you VERY unattractive to these sharks and makes a legal, justified shooter pretty much sue proof.
As to bail think 1 mil is adequate—-and is well beyond what the other companies offer.
Any more than that you’ll probably be remanded.
As to your other question—Kyle had a go fund me page.
FYI he is now being sued by the guy who he shot in the bicep.
I am not familiar with who Elisjsha Dickens has representing him.

Not a bad idea.
I have two plans that combined cost me $34 a month.

Although some people are confused about it, that's true in all states. Actually, a civil court does not assess guilt, it assesses civil liability and awards damages.
True.
Being acquitted at trial, or not even being charged criminally, does not exempt you from a civil suit or civil judgement.
While many free states will dismiss the suit if your actions are ruled justified that ruling must come from civil court.
And for that you will want a good attorney.

Possibly.

To your point, it’s possible I could live to regret the decision.. I just have yet to be convinced it’s likely.
If you own a gun for self defense then you are admitting that using it is a possibility.
Remote or otherwise.
Not being legally prepared for that possibility—especially for a very low monthly fee—is rolling the dice.
Hopefully you’ll never crap out.

CCW’s only drawback is they won’t cover you if there is ANY alcohol in your system
Which is why I dropped them.
I didn't know that, but I drink one glass of wine per week, in my house, and don't go anywhere afterwards. So I guess it could only affect me if my home was broken into. Still not a pleasant thought. Is it disclosed anywhere on their website? I don't remember seeing it...

The $200 for civil damages is significant to me because CCW Safe must see it as a high risk for them to payout as compared to the $179 plan cost.
I guess what I'm saying is that their cost for both a criminal and civil defense is likely less than damages they might have to cover if their client were found liable in a civil lawsuit.
