I finally have the money and about 50 sheets crumbled paper with pros and cons of the HK45 (full size) and the Sig P220 carry elite. I'm open to anyone else's recommondations for .45's.

Here's what I came down too.
Sig P220 carry elite
-Comes w/ Sig Night Sights
-+p ammo approved
-piticanny rail
-Smaller gun so easier to conceal than a full size HK
-Beavertail
-More after market accesories and cheaper accesories including mags

HK45
-Glo in the dark sights
-Full size, longer sight radius
-+p and +p+ ammo approved
-Piticanny rail
-Option for aftermarket threaded barrel for suppressors
-10 round magazines
-Fully amedextrious gun
-LEM... Any LEM variant can be switched to DA/SA and DA/SA comes stock with a match trigger
-Plastic buffer to reduce recoil (although I don't feel reduction in my current HK)
-O-ring on barrel for improved accuracy (although I think this is a gimmick... the greats way before HK hit targets dead on without any kinda O-ring)

I already have a HK and I do like it, and that's probably why my pro list for the HK is a bit longer... But every gun owner I talked to says Sig is the golden standard with the exception of HK owners.

By the way I was considering the Sig P220 carry elite because if there was ever a time that I wanted to switch from carrying a 9 to carrying a .45 I could do that with the Sig P220 a little easier than the full size HK45.

Thanks for reading and any help/advice or even recommendations for other firearms would be appreciated.

As a full size P220 owner I'm partial to the Sig.....But you are not going wrong with either of your choices.
From what I've read this decision is not about the gun, but about size and possible use.
I feel the Sig P220 is to big for carry even in the "carry" version...In your shoes since you have an HK and are familiar, get the HK45

Bias opinion: The HK's sights are corny and the trigger sucks.

Unbiased opinion: You can't go wrong with either.

The HK45 is a great gun and is more tolerant of my handloading experiments, but the glow in the dark sights are basically worthless, if you have it concealed and draw, they are nowhere to be found. They are just glow in the dark paint, not tritium/phosphor night sights.
The single action trigger is good on the Hk45, but Sigs are a little better. DA, Sig is way better, but the HK45 can be cocked & locked of course.
I have the full size P220 ST, and it's a great gun too, no failures of any kind with factory ammo. I'm not sure if the beavertail is a good thing on a carry gun or not.

The Sig beats the HK in my book. I always felt the HK was blocky and top heavy when shot to empty. Both are top shelf though.

I think you would be happy with either, but you will look a whole lot cooler with the HK 45. I am a die hard 1911 fan, the HK45 is the only polymer .45 that I like. The ergonomics are the best, and it is very accurate. It also hold 10+1 rounds.

He isn't blind, he just knows Braille.

No he was blind... watch it again. The last scene they show his eyes. They are clouded with cataracts. If you re-watch the movie there are tons of signs that he is blind.

He smells everything. He backs into the tunnel when he is about to fight when he sniffs outs the ambush. He uses sound to find the attackers like a bat. In the gun fights he only shoots people who have already shot at him.

Etc.... it is actually a better watch if you watch it knowing he is blind.

Either way choosing between a Sig and a HK is all about how it feels in your hand which is completely subjective. Both are fine combat handguns.

Just to throw another one into the mix which is cheaper and might be a better value than the HK or Sig. To me its a HK killer.

Well You are leaving the HK45compact out of the equasion... Is there a reason why? It might solve your dilemma. Compact and concealable and an HK. I love mine but would replace the sites with real night sites if I were carrying fro daily use or if it was my only home defense gun. By the way it takes HK USP 45 compact mags.....

I'd pass on any Heckler and Koch pistol made today as the company has been putting computer chips in their handguns under the guise of maintenance:uhoh:. Apparently Law Enforcement and the miltary dont know how to count and need a tiny chip planted in their handguns to maintain a round count for scheduled servicing.. Either way this is not a good thing to start as we all know what road this will lead down. I went with the Sig P220 Combat. I can say I never owned a more accurate centerfire pistol. The only thing close is my only HK I own, P7 PSP. Its 30 years old and doesnt have a computer chip planted in.

The rail on the HK45c really limits the choices of WML that will fit the gun properly. I have a TLRs2 (for my P2000) on the way and I know it will fit the HK45.

Both are great, but you can look at my user name to tell you what call I would make. Sig's are great and reliable....I find them to be a bit on the chunky side.

Hmm... you got me thinking now.

I own a Sig P220 Elite Dark and love the gun. I would also consider the Springfield XDm 45, 13 rounds, rail, match grade barrel, great gun also.
