For Mother's day, I detailed my mother's car (it was filthy and hadn't been cleaned at all since 2006) and did some repainting to fix her mistakes (she has a tendency to scrape her mirrors and the rear bumper on things). After 2 days of work, it looks like a new car. I also got her a Bluetooh headset for her cellphone because my brother and I decided it would be the present she would get the most use out of on a daily basis.
Now that mother's day is over, I'm working on Father's day. My brother and I are purchasing a nearly $400 leather office chair for my dad because his is really not in good shape and he always comments that he should replace it, but never does.
Also, I'm refinishing his Model 66 revolver and making it look amazing. More here (http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=362333). So far the work is going well and the mirror finish is looking amazing. I also bought a new pistol bag, and am having it embroidered with his name. I was thinking as one last thing for the gun related gift, it might be neat to get some signature (maybe on the pistol bag, or on something) that says, "Happy Shooting my dad's name. Signed by somebody gun related and famous.
Ideas:
The Gunny
Clint Eastwood
Chuck Norris
???
are any of these possible and if so who would you go with. How would I go about doing this? I figure if I need to start the process, I better start it now to be ready in time.
ETA: Oh yeah, also I'm going to get him 100 rounds each of premium defensive .38 special and .357 mag ammo (I'm thinking Speer GD or Federal HST if possible), and 200 rounds of WWB practice ammo. I figure, I have thousands upon thousands of rounds of ammo, I think he should at least have a couple hundred.
He'll probably use the office chair more, but I think he'll like the gun stuff even though he's not a gun guy... (yet).
