They're good guns, very solid. Slightly bigger than a K-frame, but easier to pack than the big L-frame and GP-100. Personally, I think the -Six series were better built (not stronger) than their replacement. Mine is living with my folks; They're not gun people, but camp and horseback ride alot and had a couple scary incidents that made them realize it might be a good idea. It was my first handgun, bought 3 months after my 18th B-day. It saw alot of use before being adopted by them.
That said, be aware that the -six guns suffer from the same problem that plagued the K-frame Smiths: Light/fast loads will crack the forcing cone at 6 O'clock, where it is thinner to clear the crane/rod. That was one of the things both S&W and Ruger addressed with their larger frame guns. But steer clear of screamin' 110 or 125 gr. loads, and it should last you a lifetime.
