I decided to shoot my S&W 617 for Steel Challenge for a while last month. I'm hoping that my form will later help me with my automatic as far as concentrating on the front sight through the shot.
I could really see the sights today and had one of my best matches; beating last months time by over 40 seconds. I got a lot of attention from the shooters, seeing an iron sight revolver competing in the Rimfire Pistol Iron category against the autos. ( I didn't come close to winning but I enjoyed the match a lot more).
Another big advantage to shooting the revolver is that when I practice I don't use my DS-10 Speed Loaders, I load individually which takes a lot more time. This keeps me from shooting as much ammo as I do with my Ruger Mark IVs. I also like the fact that I can dry fire using #6 dry wall anchors as snap caps. Live fire is only a few hundred rounds a week but dry fire is over 1000.
