Does anyone know much about the situation in New York State as to how there isn't any dove hunting? I'm told that doves are listed as a songbird so thus aren't huntable unless they get officially changed to game birds by legislative action. Has this been discussed much or attempted? They're scratching their heads trying to come up with ways to get more youth hunters so why not that? It's probably the second most popular form of hunting there is at all and is PERFECT for introducing new and youth hunters. Plus it adds another additional use for land so more income for landowners, which in turn generates more revenue for the state also in increased license fees and ammo sales. LOTS of people here shoot clays so it's using an existing known base of people which could get even bigger still. I grew up on dove hunting first as did everyone else I knew growing up. People love dove hunting just about everywhere and it's always near the top of the list for participants. I LOVE it and this state that has so many sportsmen and gains so much from its outdoors opportunities deserves to have it.

I brought this up at the local DEC meeting and they said they'd be for it but nobody's talked about it much or asked for it so they haven't moved on it. What are your thoughts on this?

I can't imagine living where Dove hunting is not alowed. It is the prelude to the best of the rest. all I can say is; Lobby,Lobby,Lobby until someone in your state government listens. There is nothing wrong with killing and eating those International Symbols of Peace. :D ;)

This apparently will need some broad spectrum support and a lot of word of mouth spreading among the NYS shooting clubs and organizations. It's apparently very little talked about or known.
