I'm going to do like the typical American hunter: wait until the weekend before deer season, go to a public range along with 5000 other wannabe outdoorsmen, fire 2 shots from the gun I haven't touched since last season from the same eight year old box of ammo, manage to hit somewhere on a 2'x2' target, and declare all is good.
Not. lol[/QUOTE
I've been going to the range at least once a week since early March.
Have a new to me 1975 ruger no 1 in 7 mag I recently bought.
Have mounted a Leoupold vx 2 4x12 power scope. Only scope I have that has enough eye relief for this rifle and factory rings.
Shot one box of my old reloads to get on paper. Then took some shots off a barricade at steel at 130 yards. Its minute of mule deer with ease.
Now having to choose between this rifle or a Ruger Hawkeye in 7mm 08 that also hasnt been hunted with....or maybe the ar10
This year I have a Mule deer buck tag and will be hunting...just have no idea what rifles will go.
Take them all decide which to use in the am of hunt then alternate as season progresses.
