September first and second we hunted dove and did very well. Yesterday I took the baby girl, who is now 17 out for a bit of prairie dog shooting as a warm up with her hunting rifle. She was able to hit about 15 prairie dogs ranging from 120 yards out to about 265 yards. I think she only missed two or three times. That was with her 6.5-06.

She then confiscated my AR-15, the "fun gun" as she called it. I don't know how many she swatted with the AR but she ran through three 20 round magazines without too many misses. The rancher who owns the land was happy to hear about the high body count! He invited my girl back anytime she wanted to swat prairie dogs. :)

Bear season started on the second. I am headed up tomorrow and will be taking daughter number one out next weekend. Antelope starts the first weekend of October. We have elk tags for the next week. Deer tags in state two weeks later and out of state deer tags starting the second week in November.

Oh and then a late season elk tag for the baby girl too.

Should be a busy fun filled fall!

:D

Sounds like your hunting schedules pretty well locked down! Thats awsome. Hope you and your kids have a blast, and get some game!

We're gettin the jitters already up here

Been watchin the deer come in close and hang around my house, 2 evenings back i was callin yotes and had an army of deer show up at 50 yds to investigate.... decided the yotes from this den will be safe till after november season, but MAN ALIVE i was happy to see this herd grow, there's a buck and two does i've been babysittin for 4 years and i'm glad to see they've done well, 7 new bucks aged from 2-4 yrs and 3 does, and all but 2 of the does have added to the group this year! i just hope they stick around here, i have too many neighbors that have contributed poorly to the herd growth and just shoot anything upright, not to mention some not so legal activities that i would like to fry them over, (not against someone truly hungry gettin food any way they have to, this is VERY different). Anyways, our antelope population is still blooming too well for comfort and all legal nebraska hunters are welcome to do their part, (to which point, an old friend filled his archery tag sunday with a large male and all parties were thrilled as he had been hunting several years and this was his first success!) Our oldest will be starting her deer career next year and she is already crackin down on the tin cans etc. I don't hunt much except for varmints anymore, but enjoy takin my friends and family out to fill tags, and the fever for me is buildin with the change in weather. i hope i'm not hijackin the intent of this thread, i apologize if i did, i'm very thrilled that your lil one is so active with the sport and may she be forever successful with the slaying of prairie dogs! i have always found more joy in the younger generations having a good experience than Olympic competitions. i joined this forum in hopes of finding similar folks to converse with about so many topics that are less commonly exercised around here, and i'm not yet disappointed, i'm glad to see i'm not the only one already looking ahead to november!
