Flyer ... A shot well outside the normal group on a target and not representative of the rifle or the cartridge's potential accuracy, almost always due to shooter error.
If you are shooting in competition, you get sighter shots to foul the barrel and find the target. After that, a flyer has another name... "seven" or even "miss."
Flyers can be caused by a number of things, but one things I've learned, especially with rifles that exhibit a bit of recoil, is that it's extremely important to grip the rifle in the same manner for each shot. Likewise, you shouldn't have to "push" or "pull" the rifle this way or that to get the crosshairs on target.
