I should note that a friend could not find it in his gun dealer books and all referance to GevarM rifle (manufacture's name) that I could find were for .22 calibre rimfires.

Yes, Virginia, there IS a Gevarm CENTERFIRE...
I'm a BIG fan of the four models of .22rf Gevarm rifles which were intended for export to the North American continent. These four differ from the ones Gevarm made for their European market. I've since learned there exists a Gevarm marked SHORTS, and its owner reports none of the standard 8-rd and 20-rd magazines known here will work in his rifle. And, he says he's run into other people who report they own similar rifles.
Over the years I've run into quite a few Gevarm rifles in centerfire calibers but never paid any attention to them as I had no interest in centerfire. Though I didn't pay much attention to them I noted the sellers always mentioned the high quality of the firearm. DUH? I wouldn't expect less from them...
I can speak for the VERY high quality of their .22rfs only. This posting is simply to verify that, yes, Gevarm made many firearms, both rimfire AND centerfire, which were never offered by importers on this side of he pond. WHY, I cannot answer, but I suspect it was wholsales cost wouldn't let them be competitive with our domestic firearms.

Many thanks 45............Your explaination seems to be correct and I will have to keep my eyes open for more information.
This rifle has been "around the block" a time or two and has had a lot of bluing wore off. The stock's finish is crackling and can be scraped off with your fingernail although there is no dents or ding on the entire rifle. It has cut checkering that is very crisp.
I bought it as a shooter but maybe I'll clean it up first.

Freedomv, I believe it would be to your advantage to sharpen-up your rifle as much as possible. I don't think you need to worry about spoiling its collectibility as I've never heard of another Gevarm collector.
Below is a company picture of the four .22rf models offered to the North American market. Should you ever run into a Model A6, that's the last one I'm still searching for. I've got the other three.
Only minor difference between the 3 and the 6 is that the 6 the less fancy sight system. NO tunnel front with post inserts, and NO fancy mauser-style rear sight, just a simple v-notch with small, notched elevator.
IF your rifle has the fancy buttcap on the pistol grip, and a tunnel front sight, below is a photo of how they arranged storage of the interchangeable front sight posts on my A3. I don't know if the storage well might be on the A6 but empty. No idea because I've not seen one . . . yet!

Hi Freedomv, You have a very good accurate firearm,I purchased a C1 .222 a few years ago and have been impressed with the quality,I purchased this rifle from a guy that was a professional government hunter in the late 50's early 60's, I am from New Zealand where deer are considered a pest and are hunted and poisoned using 1080 dropped from the air.the rifle that I own shot many deer in the late 50's according to the owner several thousand,I personally do not use on deer as not a good enough shot to be sure of head shooting the animals but .222 was used for deer culling by government cullers. mine shoots best with 55gn ammo.do not lose the clip though as you cannot replace I drilled a small hole in the trigger guard and another in the clip and secured with a thin wire fishing trace,you will be well pleased with your rifle.

I haven't really shot this rifle, maybe two or three rounds is all just to see if it worked.
It appears to be what I would call "simple quality" well built and serviceable.
The magazine/clip is some what difficult to remove as it "drags" on the sides and will not fall out on it's own (I hope). But when I get to it I will probably do as you did and attach a short retaining cable. I cleaned up the wood and haven't touched the metal, Just too many other things to do.
