I am looking to buy a ghost ring rear sight for my model 94 for use as a truck gun. I have narrowed it down to the XS and the Wild West sight. I am thinking that the Wild West would be more robust, and probably a better sight but have no experience with either. Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just bought the WWG one from midway for 70 bucks...it is a very robust sight, but 2 things could be better - 1) it's kinda chunky, and has very square edges, which don't really match the rounded corners of the Winchester, and 2) It's not actually blued, it's parkerized or something, and doesn't quite fit with the look of a blued Winchester.

I don't have any experience with the AO version, but I do have AO express pistol sights which are very nice.

That being said, it was 70 bucks well spent, and I'd still take it over the AO. The sight picture is great, and light years ahead of the factory sight.

YMMV

I also noticed Midway was running a sale and will probably go that way. Which front sight are you using with it? I noticed Brockmans makes a good one for about 19 bucks, so with the rear on sale and a front from Brockman the price of the WW and the XS would be pretty close.

Actually, I just use the factory front sight. It's not real big or impressive, but it works. Part of the reason that I went with the WWG is that the AO has to have the taller front sight, and I didn't want to mess with tapping out the dovetail and fitting the new one in.

I also didn't take out the old rear sight, I just took the adjustable bit off of it, and dropped it to the lowest setting. Now it sits just below the ghost ring when I look through it, out of the way, but without having a big empty dovetail on the back of the barrel.

I gotta admit that I was really close to putting a Marbles full-buckhorn sight on it, but I'm glad that I went this way instead. :)

94 ghost ring

I dont' have my Brownell's handy, but there was a ghostring attachment that fits to the stock rear sight of '92's and '94s, that with two screws converted it to a ghost ring.

Now that doesnt lengthen the eye relief, but using the factory sights, you kind of conserve the look of the '94.

I haven't got one yet, but dealer cost was something like $34 or so. I'm debating for me truck gun.
