I have a Winchester 94AE Trapper with the 16" bbl. in 30-30 that I bought new around 1993-94. I have been recently looking for a set of peep or ghost ring sights for it as I don't care for the stock leaf rear sight.

I've checked out many of the ghost ring sights but they all require drilling and tapping. I have no way of doing that myself and I don't want to pay a gunsmith to do it. Anyway, I don't like the looks of them on a 94 hanging off the receiver.

I came across www.oneraggedhole.com and noticed they have a ghost sight sight for the Winchester 94AE and it looks great! There is no drilling or tapping involved and the price is right.

Do any of you folks have any experience with this sight? It looks like it's just what I was looking for and also looks like the 94 could be returned to stock form if I don't like it.

Any input would be appreciated.

I put one of these on my Win 9422 and it was easy to put on and it would be easy to put the old site back on if you didn't like it.

They work OK, better than the stock sights. My old eyes prefer scopes these days, but I didn't want to scope the 9422.

I have one on a 16" Trapper in .357mag. I like it much better than the stock sights. While not as good as a true peep up close to your eye, it does provide for a quick sight picture and my accuracy improved considerably. And as mentioned above, it is very easy to revert back to the factory sight with no permanent modification to the gun.

I had the oneraggedhole sights on a ruger pistol and they worked fine. The pistol version came with 2 different size sights so you could experiment to find out which worked best for you. Worth the money.

I have One Ragged Hole sights on two Ruger single actions, a Handi-Rifle and a Win '94 in 30/30. I am happy with mine and they have given several years of service. I wish they made them to fit more guns than they do.

and noticed they have a ghost sight sight
I really don't consider them to be a ghost ring sight, because they are so far away from your eye, they almost have to be in partial focus.
Thus, they cannot be a ghost ring sight.

That makes them more a standard barrel mounted sight with a hole in it instead of a notch.

I played around with one for a while, and found no improvement at all. It's somewhere in the bottom of the junque box now.

rcmodel - I need another one to fit a '94. If you have that model what would you take for it?

If you have a 94AE then it should be tapped for a scope mount at the front and rear of the chamber. That being so, you could just get a host-ring sight from XSsights.com that won't need any tapping or drilling at all.

For longer ranges, my mid-barrel ramp sight was replaced with a scout-scope rail and a Long Eye Relief scope. It comes off with quick releases so I pretty much have the best of both worlds.
